It has long been a mystery how that original 302 was emailed around yet seemingly untraceable at the same time.
It's kinda like the "unrecoverable" texts between Strzok and Page. It's a consistent and abhorrent pattern of stonewalling and cover-up perpetrated by the swamp to protect the bureaucratic institutions and or the prior administration.

I have to wonder what was the probable cause asserted in the application for a search warrant on Cohen in July 2017? Something other than the Steele Dossier? Collusion with NY state legal authorities on taxi cab medallions?

If the latter the only way that is a federal matter is the use of them as collateral for a loan from an FDIC insured institution. Stuff like that is usually a collateral charge to other things like tax evasion, money laundering and the like.

FISA is just a tool and how it is used depends on the users of said tool. Unfortunately, we can't trust a tool that powerful to our politicians, bureaucrats and the judicial branch.

K.T. McFarland was Flynn's Deputy and sat in on two of the four Rice/Flynn passing the baton meetings. Rice, through her spokesperson stated that she fully briefed Flynn in these meetings and held nothing back. K.T. says that Rice never told either Flynn nor her that the Obama administration was about to order expulsions and then sanctions on the Russians.

So again I ask what was the desired result from Obama's perspective, of imposing those sanctions? What did he want to happen?

Nice of Weissmann to let Durham know where he'll be on that date just in case, you know, an indictment on him is handed down.

Hmmmm, not sure how I feel about this. Will Ratcliffe continue the declass party? The fact that Dems are trying to speed up the vote worries me.

Quote:

Acting spy chief Richard Grenell's reign as a prodigious declassifier is set to end with the full Senate poised to vote on the nomination of Rep. John Ratcliffe.

The vote, set for noon on Thursday, appears to be happening sooner than previously expected. The Washington Post reported Tuesday morning that congressional aides believed a vote would likely take place after Memorial Day. But the Associated Press reported Wednesday that Democrats are allowing the process to be completed more expeditiously without procedural hurdles, even as they voice opposition to Ratcliffe's nomination.

Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany who also took on the role of acting director of national intelligence in February, has roiled Democrats and pleased Republicans by declassifying long-sought-after documents related to investigations into Russian election interference.
Most recently, on Tuesday, the fully declassified version of the email that Obama national security adviser Susan Rice sent herself about an Oval Office discussion on the FBI's investigation into retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn was released to the public.

Grenell reportedly had more that he wished to declassify. Fox News chief White House correspondent Ed Henry reported that a source told him Grenell had "several buckets" of intelligence he wanted to get out that show the Obama administration was trying to "set a narrative." This comes as President Trump and his allies push an "Obamagate" controversy that questions what former President Barack Obama knew about the Russia investigation and what role he played in it.

It remains to be seen whether Ratcliffe, if confirmed, would continue the trend.

Hopefully that is a massive miscalculation.

Can Trump pull the nomination and put Grenell up? Or can the nominee not also be the acting head?

I'm not in the least concerned that Ratcliffe will continue to declassify. His record during his membership in the House gives me that impression. He's already seen a lot of the classified stuff from the House investigations.

Haven't we been down the road with Ratcliffe before and it didn't look like he would get nominated? Maybe Trump installed Grennel as acting head to give the Dems something to think about and make it easier to nominate Ratcliffe. 64D Chess!

Yesterday's release of Susan Rice's inauguration-day email to herself provided further evidence of former President Barack Obama's participation in the FBI's targeting of Michael Flynn. The recently declassified paragraph in Rice's email, however, proves significant for another reason: It confirms the FBI had no valid investigative purpose for questioning Flynn on January 24, 2017....

Like the fact that he was a former US Attorney

Quote:

The best job I ever had was to be the United States attorney and what I lovedwas it was an apolitical position," Ratcliffe told the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this month. "I stood up always to represent the United States of America. Never one party or another. And I very much view that as this role for the DNI.

It was a straight party-line vote in the Senate committee. The Dems have always been one of the obstacles, but the behind-the-scenes-problem with Ratcliffe's previous DNI nomination was Burr. The latter has his own difficulties/scandal now & needs all the Repub backing he can get to preserve his seat, so Burr is playing ball...for now.

Grenell did a fantastic job forcing their hand. It was win-win. Expose Democrat Party corruption to point where Ratcliffe is seen as a potentially better option and the roadblocks to his approval are removed.

Grenell is one of those "best people" Trump needs to keep.

I like this part.

Quote:

Whether, and when, the government will be able to do so, remains unclear. But we should know more later today on the schedule the D.C. Circuit sets for resolving Flynn's petition for a writ of mandamus.
Should see some movement in the DC Circuit today.

My read is Obama expected Russia to respond. Hopefully escalating tensions and giving Trump another problem to deal with as he started his term.

When they didn't, that gave him reason to think they were colluding OR knowing Flynn would back channel to the Russians there would be a predicate to advance their investigation / trap.

My read is the exact opposite. Obama had long had a "flexible" relationship with Putin. He could appear to tweak Putin's nose without really doing so. And imposing those sanctions (which really weren't all that harsh) less than a month before Trump took office was just a rhetorical flourish on his way out of the door.

But why task the entire intelligence community with scouring all of their sources to find out why Putin did not respond? Why not pick up a phone and call him? Or send Kerry to Moscow, if not down the street to the Russian embassy?

So indeed I think it was a charade, a trap. Which is why Susan Rice deliberately did not brief Flynn or McFarland beforehand. Wanted to catch the incoming administration completely off-guard. It was political, not foreign policy.

I agree with aggiehawg on this. Let's not forget Obama's infamous "I'll have more flexibility" comment to Medvedev. Every decision the db made while in office is political.
