Doc, I don't know if you remember, but I had extremely ambivalent thoughts on Rosenstein for a long time. Calling for a SC one day after Mueller left the oval office, and Mueller conveniently leaving his phone there, Rosenstein calls out the storm troopers (some of the Mueller attorneys are nothing more). I know Hawg will remember, because we had a post, or two, about it.

Even then, in reviewing Rosenstein's actions, I had strong suspicions, but wanted additional information. Finally, about a year ago, I made up my mind after several of Rosenstein's e-mails surfaced about wearing a wire in presence of POTUS, and then several e-mails from Rosenstein (can't remember the recipient) stating he had committed actions with malice regarding Spygate, BUT POTUS DIDN'T KNOW, and he didn't want POTUS to know.

Now, it's a no brainer. I so very badly wanted to believe that THIS MANY individuals in DOJ/FBI just couldn't be this corrupt. I love America, not because it''s America, but because it's always been a world leader in freedom and liberty. It's still hard to believe, but to say I'm angry and cynical is a gross understatement.

Realize that the FBI isn't really America. The FBI is basically 100 years old, really less than that in the form most of us think of the FBI existing. Hoover used the Red Scare after WWI to drum up a purpose and then created the agency which didn't really have much teeth until the Great Depression and most didn't really know it existed until the Lindbergh kidnapping. Much of the principles of what the FBI represents are in direct opposition to the principles of the Founding Fathers.

The FBI leadership needs to be gutted and replaced with field agents. The DOJ needs House cleaning in any office homed in DC. You might lose a few good people with the refuse but they would do fine in the private sector. Justice depends on it.

This is all coming out now as documents are being declassified. But most of this was known back in 2017 thanks to people like John Solomon and Sarah Carter's reporting. And didn't people in Congress have access to these classified documents? Although I know Republicans in the House asked over and over again for the document that initiated the special counsel. The DOJ refused to give it to Congress which has oversight over the DOJ. I blame the Republicans as well on this. They should have known what was going on and they should have stopped the special counsel and held Rosenstein in contempt.

Some Republicans wanted Trump gone.

Others were terrified that if they defended him, and it turned out the accusations were true, they would be toast as well.

Many were just gutless like always and didn't want to be attacked by the media, nor lose their place on the D.C. cocktail circuit.

Editorials lamenting his treasonous guidance to the SC are all we are likely to see, but it is maddening. It wasn't just Flynn who they tried to frame, of course. That was their standard MO.

Quote:

Regarding Papadopoulos: Notice how the Mueller team were claiming the possibility of "lobbying for the Israeli government". Another FARA violation. It was non-existent because Papadopoulos wasn't lobbying, however, it now makes more sense why the corrupt Mueller team tried to set-up Papadopouos with the $10,000 sting operation.

Papadopoulos was lured to Israel under the pretense of a contract for consultation on energy development. That's where CIA operative George Tawil gave Papadopoulos $10,000 in cash under sketchy circumstances. The FBI was waiting for Papadopoulos at Dulles airport upon his return, and they searched for the cash without a warrant using the authority of customs, duties and a legal airport search. [More Here]

#1) Papadopoulos was lured to Israel and paid in Israel to give the outline of a FARA premise (ie. Papadopoulos is an agent of Israel). #2) Bringing $10,000 (or more) in cash into the U.S., without reporting, is a violation of U.S. treasury laws. Add into that aspect the FARA violation and the money can be compounded into #3) laundering charges.

[A "laundering" charge applies if the money is illegally obtained. The FARA violation would be the *illegal* aspect making the treasury charges heavier. Note: the use of the airport baggage-check avoids the need for a search warrant (the agents didn't have one).]

Andrew Weissmann and Brandon Van Grack (special counsel 951/FARA expert) were conducting an entrapment scheme that would have ended up with three violations of law: (1) Treasury violation; (2) FARA violation; (3) Money laundering. All they needed was Papadopoulos to carry the undeclared cash into the U.S.

The key aspect is the FARA violation. As we have seen in the EDVA case against Flynn's partner Bijan Rafiekian, the DOJ-NSD bizarre interpretation of FARA laws create a violation from any unregistered purposeful business contact with a foreign entity.

What Weissmann wanted for Papadopoulos was to create the same FARA scenario that previously trapped Manafort, Flynn and Rafiekian. They intercepted Papadopoulos in Washington DC because it was the customs port of entry. Papadopoulos was ticketed to Chicago with a transfer flight at Dulles.
However, because Papadopoulos suspected something, and left the money in Greece with his lawyers, upon arrival at the DC airport the sting operation collapsed in reverse.

No money means no treasury violation, no laundering and no evidence of the consultancy agreement; which would have been repurposed in the DOJ filing to mean lobbying for Israel via Mr. Tawil (FARA 951 violation) and Tawil would have become a confidential informant and witness (though Tawil would likely never be used to testilie because the special counsel would force a plea).

That operational collapse is why the FBI agents were "scrambling" at the airport and why they had no pre-existing criminal complaint. The DOJ couldn't get a warrant because they couldn't tell a judge their suspect was traveling with $10k from Israel because the judge would ask how they knew that.

The entrapment's success was contingent upon the cash as a pre-existing condition; and arriving at a Federal airport means they didn't need a search warrant.

Note how even if Papadopoulos didn't have the full $10k, the DOJ-NSD would only have lost the treasury violation. they could still have used any substantial amount of money to charge the FARA part of the business arrangement by questioning Papadopoulos about where he gained the cash from.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I feel like all the new information that's coming out is old information based on people here piecing it together months ago.

Now the cynic in me looks at this as probably the biggest scandal of my lifetime but nothing is going to happen. There's just too many people involved. Too much bureaucracy. The fact that we have an election later this year and none of this is resolved just goes to strength of the "deep state".

I told my wife back in January that I was 95% sure Trump was going to win reelection based on the economy alone. I'm now 100% sure he will lose and this will get swept under the rug. Just too many people working against it: 100% democrats, media, government insiders.

Well, technically the transcripts are property of the House, not ODNI. Only reason Grennel has them is because of the classified information review and redactions.

But since there was already a committee vote to release them, Grennel wouldn't be stepping too much on the House's toes by releasing them.
