"It turned out that the FBI wasn't aware that that database on there, which was supposed to be an operating function, was actually collecting data," explained Horowitz, who plans to release a report on the OIG's text message recovery process.
What Horowitz did not explain and was not asked was why Strzok's portion of the Aug. 8, 2016 message was so difficult to find.
Horowitz said that the FBI's failure to discover the text messages raises concerns about whether the bureau was able to collect all of its agents' and officials' text messages.
"We are not convinced that the FBI was collecting 100 percent of the text messages," he said.

The media then reported on Carter Page as part of the vast Russian Conspiracy (the insurance policy) based on the SSCI leak. The FBI and DOJ then used the 2017 media reporting from the SSCI leak to request the June 2017 FISA renewal.
Keep in mind, all of this happened under the current FBI and DOJ leadership.

Lawyers from the White House Counsel's Office are the ones performing the declassification process, not members of the DOJ/FBI. That pretty much tells you that Rosenstein & Wray oppose the declassification. The latter are the ones who have stonewalled Congress over releasing many documents in the past.

Sadly, the DOJ/FBI's credibility barely moves the needle these days.
It's pretty amazing what's going on with this FISA application release. Trump can't use anyone outside of the WH for help. The AG, DOJ, and FBI would normally help with redactions but they are implicated is all of this so WH lawyers are helping.

The really bad thing about this is the spin from the willing sycophants. Of course, I'm pretty sure obstruction of justice will be knee jerk, along with "he's damaging sources and methods", yadda yadda. I also suspect, as Hawg said before, Mueller will want to use it to hang over Trump's head.
Assuming declassification happens, then it's going to genuinely have to be a glaring breach of the law. I'm all for releasing the unredacted documents and catching as many people in the dragnet as possible from both sides of the fence. Anyone caught up in this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and serve as much jail time/pay the highest fines possible.
The drawback to this plan is that the MSM and Democrats will have another "literally Hitler" moment because Trump will be locking up "political prisoners." No matter that they have broken the law and deserve jail time. That is the way it will be spun.

However, I do have concerns about the possible ramifications if declassifying these documents leads to a large number of resignations. Wray, Rosenstein, Sessions, Coats, Priestap to start with. Republicans need to hold the Senate and even then getting anyone else confirmed will be a battle royal. Meanwhile, denizens of the swamp will be in charge, long term bureaucrats.
That is not intended as a defense of any of them named it is more of an observation that nature abhors a vacuum and when it comes to the power of the DNI, FBI, DOJ being rudderless for a long time worries me.

The only card the MSM has to play is the 'We'll kill your political career card. Trump doesn't GAS about that. That's why he's perfect right now for the job of swamp draining.
