If Robert Mueller attempts to prosecute Don Jr. for lying to Congress, while James Clapper, who admitted to lying to Congress on national television, roams free......

In my opinion, we will be in a full on, out in the open, coup d'etat.
Mueller going after one of Trump's kids would be DEFCON 2, approaching DEFCON 1.

But it would almost force Trump to sit down with him, in all likelihood, from a legal strategy.
Going after his kids has always been one of their end games, knowing Trump will likely go nuclear, fire Sessions, fire Rosy, and fire Mueller.

One would think that it would be up to Congress, but Mule Head doesn't care about the law.

whats the point? If this ever gets prosecuted, trump will use it to pump information and then pardon.
Legal strategy to force Trump to sit down with Mueller.
But I don't see how that generates that sort of leverage. Trump has an absolute trump card (spare me) that he can play in this situation and there really isn't anything Mueller can do about it.

"You can't be prosecuted" is much better than "spend a ton on attorney fees and hope for a pardon"

Mueller doesn't care that DOJ guidelines says a sitting President cannot be indicted. He'll do it if he damn well pleases and no one will try to stop him.

Well it worked with Flynn, didn't it? But I digress. If the case is lying under oath about what his father knew about the Trump Tower meeting, Trump's testimony becomes something Mueller cannot get anywhere else. A thresh hold question in the issuance of the subpoena.

True, it will likely go to the Supreme Court but there's another factor. Mueller has no issue with claiming witness tampering over a ten second phone call. What is he going to claim about Trump's communications with his son? Are they not supposed to see each other or talk for a year or more while it is a pending investigation or worse?

I warned about the rolling barrage coming from left field. This might be a troll, trial balloon, or part of the barrage. We'll see.

It's buzzing around in Dem circles. It may not have been purpose of the Cohen deal, but that is certainly how it is going to be used politically by the Dems. Never mind that Kavannaugh is imminently qualified, and Trump is the duly elected president.

Consider me on the fence and here's why:

Take a peek at all of the other senate democrats firing off the exact same message and today's borderline crazy washington post OpEd by max boot that channels Oliver Cromwell (of all people) in calling trump illigetimate. Well coordinated at least.

Yes. As a Rapier nailed, that's Markey looking for a reason not to meet with him.

If there had been not plea by Cohen, Markey would have found another reason.

Kavanaugh will be confirmed before the election

The only way I can see the Dems blocking it is to insure there is not a quorum present to take a vote. With McCain (still being the PITA and absent) they would need one (or two) GOP Senators to not be present. Need 51 Senators for a quorum.

(Anyone remember when that happened in the Texas State lege several years back? The Dems took off and went into hiding in Oklahoma, IIRC?)

This thread is a synopsis of 'The Mechanics of Deception', the latter having been recommended reading several times on our thread, plus a few additions. Most of you are not familiar at all with Bruce Ohr's sister, Martha Ohr. I've highlighted from this thread the info about her below:

Quote:

Martha Ohr, Bruce Ohr's sister, and a NY Based ABC Producer. She's good friends with Jeremy Hubbard and Taunia Hottman, reporters who pushed the Russian hoax.

Quote:

Jeremy Hubbard is a former ABC News anchor. They voraciously spread Russian collusion tweets early on.

Quote:

The author found Martha Ohr connections to over over 40 news outlets, dossier content creators, and reporters.
An example of collusion and dossier related content created and distributed through Martha Ohr's social network with journalists. Metadata on many of the images indicates that they were produced in a commercial studio environment during business hours.

Quote:

The network graph analysis indicates that the fellowship of the dossier is a close-knit group; everyone knew each other long before embarking on the quest to find the alleged Russian collusion. All project key players are related through marriage, family relations, or work.
...
Quote:

The CNN Trump Dossier & Collusion team: Jake Tapper, Evan Perez, Jim Sciutto, and Carl Bernstein receiving the Merriman Award from Jonathan Karl from ABC. Martha Ohr was Karl's news producer at ABC Television. Karl was also at Vassar College with Peter Fritsch and Nellie Ohr.

Quote:

In at least 3 cases, Fusion GPS/other sources paid reporters five digit figures for these publications, per Congressional records. The reporters remain unidentified.

I think if the Dems did that they would get punished at the polls. McConnell has to bring That to a vote before midterms.

This is a must watch (12 minutes). Quotes below are not exact but close:
"Sessions never took control of the Justice Department."
"Rod Rosenstein recommended Wray."
"Podestra was supposed to be Manafort on steroids and supposed to be indicted immediately."
"I guess the right thing would be to do the documents." (Declassify the FISA documents)

I stumbled on this tweet below with subsequent replies; it's about Oleg Deripaska + Red Sparrow +++:

Red Sparrow is the infamous prostitute who recorded conversations on Deripaska's yacht & then went to Thailand for a sex counseling service??, was arrested, & then CNN rushed to interview her. Remember? Okay? She also published a book detailing who was on Deripaska's yacht with her. The video below is Russian with English subscripts. It describes Red Sparrow's activities and then goes into the book in detail. Watch the video and you will understand why Mueller wants to crack Manafort, because Manafort connects to Deirpaska, and Deripaska connects to "Daddy" who was on the yacht for 3 days...in 'uncharted' waters, Deripaska paying all the expenses (bribes). Very detailed video.

Red Sparrow's sex group was in Italy; she's #4 from the left in the photo below. The blond, #6 from the left, very much resembles Papadopoulos' wife -- people speculate about it in the tweet replies.

Then read the thread below. Discusses Deripaska & "Daddy" although the video details are more thorough and interesting. The video is also in this thread.

The ultimate blackmail, if you think about it. Trump can, should he desire, make J. Edgar Hoover look like a piker.

Past Presidents would feel compelled not to go there. Past Presidents weren't nearly as menaced from all sides as this one. Past Presidents were too worried about sticking their finger in the wind to assess which way the political winds were blowing.

Trump doesn't GAF about all of that.

He's really not being given much of a choice but to eventually declassify everything. As Hawg said, Trump doesn't GAF about the ramifications of that politically.

As far as an assassination attempt goes, frankly it would not shock me, given the left's and MSM's sad attempt to doxx the jurors at the Manafort trial, which of course would have led to political harassment of innocent people for simply doing their job.
