I need y'alls help. Someone said it was disclosed (in a footnote on the FISA application) that the DNC/Hillary had paid for the dossier. I didn't think this was claimed anywhere, including the Schiff memo.
Here is the actual quote from the FISA application that Schiff included in his Memo; it had footnotes embedded within it -- it was a photo copy so it has been reproduced below without the footnote annotations, the latter information provided below the quote:

Quote:

..In an extensive explanation to the Court, DOJ discloses that Steele

"was approached by an identified U.S. Person, who indicated to Source #1 [Steele] that a U.S.-based law firm had hired the identified U.S. Person to conduct research regarding Candidate #1's ties to Russia. (The identified U.S. Person and Source #1 have a long-standing business relationship.) The identified U.S. Person hired Source #1 to conduct this research. The identified U.S. person never advised Source #1 as to the motivation behind the research into Candidate #1's ties to Russia. The FBI speculates that the identified U.S. Person was likely looking for information that could be used to discredit Candidate #1's campaign."

(via footnotes)
U.S. Person = Simpson
Source #1 = Steele
U.S.-based law firm = Perkins Coie LLP
Candidate #1 = Donald Trump

As you can see, the information provided to the Court did not indicate that the dossier was paid for by the DNC & HRC.

This statement is an obvious lie: "The identified U.S. person never advised Source #1 as to the motivation behind the research into Candidate #1's ties to Russia." They had a long standing business relationship since 2010, plus Steele was in the US in September talking to multiple news agencies about the dossier in order to plant leaks. No mention is made of Nellie Ohr working for Fusion GPS, or that the Ohrs were friends with Steele -- I'll wager that Steele & Simpson met with the Ohrs in September when Steele was making the rounds with the news agencies (I think we will find out about the latter as well as Nellie's HAM radio license).

This statement is grossly misleading because the FBI knew that the DNC & HRC had paid for the dossier and that is was opposition research: "The FBI speculates that the identified U.S. Person was likely looking for information that could be used to discredit Candidate #1's campaign."

This is an extensive semi-biography on Steele and his participation in the dossier. It is at least a 30 minute read. I suggest that you read it on an empty stomach, because eventually you and your stomach contents will part company.

Doc, I don't think I want to be that enlightened!

BTW, and I'm sure among all 207 pages of this thread, this has been discussed, but other than "The Last Refuge, Thomas Wictor, V Lindsay, and maybe Seth Abramson, who is also good to follow at "threadreaderapp"?

I'm asking because I prefer not to read 3-4 threads of each author, in order to find out who's accurate, and/or provocative. If it's all great, no reply needed--just wondering.

SO it's been a year and just now Mueller is subpoenaing emails from the campaign members?

WTF has he been doing for the last year? He's just now asking for this? If you were actually looking for collusion in the campaign you'd think this would have been a starting point....

What Mueller is asking for: Mueller is subpoenaing all communications including but not limited to emails, texts, handwritten notes, etc. that this witness sent and received regarding the following people:

[ol]
  • Carter Page
  • Corey Lewandowski
  • Donald J. Trump
  • Hope Hicks
  • Keith Schiller
  • Michael Cohen
  • Paul Manafort
  • Rick Gates
  • Roger Stone
  • Steve Bannon
  • [/ol]The subpoena asks for all communications from November 1, 2015, to the present. Notably, Trump announced his campaign for president five months earlier on June 16, 2015.

Mueller is planning to drop his nuke about 2 weeks before the election.

At the very least, he is hoping to catch most if not all of those people in some kind of process crime.

The Trumps and Kushner agreed to a meeting with the Russians (WHICH WE KNOW THEY DID) unknown to them that the Russians and DAD were already secretly sharing anti Hillary info as DAD was being blackmailed because the Russian had tapes of DAD and the peeing prostitute?

Seriously? This is laughable they would try to buy political influence right? They were helping Haitians when they gave to Bill and Hillary right?

Well I'll tell you what. It's completely obvious what color hat Mueller wears. He was commissioned to find crap on Trump. He was not given a crime to investigate as there was none. He was given the leeway to go anywhere he wants to find or fabricate dirt and that's exactly what he's doing. The whole thing is designed to coincide with the midterms, and the way the republicans are just fumbling around with their heads up their collective butts, that's exactly what's gonna happen. And now it's going to the UAE looking for money trails? Hello Clinton foundation! But no, the R's are just sitting back and watching. Well they better put together a few commissions of their own and start attacking their enemies. Everybody says don't worry, Trump is playing 4D chess or whatever. Bull****! If they're not smart enough or too lazy to take care of business, the dems are gonna bury them. Everybody waiting on the magical OIG report is just fooling themselves. If they can't help themselves, I'm not gonna worry about them anymore. Sorry about the negativity. Rant over.

    From the Mayer article:

    Quote:

Inevitably, though, word of the dossier began to spread through Washington. A former State Department official recalls a social gathering where he danced around the subject with the British Ambassador, Sir Kim Darroch. After exchanging cryptic hints, to make sure that they were both in the know, he asked the Ambassador, "Is this guy Steele legit?" The Ambassador replied, "Absolutely." Brennan, then the C.I.A. director, also heard the rumors. (Nunes reportedly plans to examine Steele's interactions with the C.I.A. and the State Department next.) But Brennan said recently, on "Meet the Press," that he heard just "snippets" about the dossier "in press circles," emphasizing that he didn't see the dossier until well after the election, and said that "it did not play any role whatsoever" in the intelligence community's appraisal of Russian election meddling. Brennan said of the dossier, "It was up to the F.B.I. to see whether or not they could verify any of it."
This makes absolutely no sense to me. Steele's sources were Russian. That's the purview of the CIA. They also were talking with British intelligence. Why not at least try to get some confirmation from CIA Russian assets? Or ask British intel to check with their Russian assets?

Yet, in August 2016, Obama and Biden are briefed about the Russians allegedly trying to influence the election in Trump's favor. But the dossier is never mentioned? The one that actually named the Russians supposedly running the computer operations?
