I think that in the end the mucked up timelines and inconsistent information is a result of a continual scramble by both law enforcement and the casino to limit as much liability as possible. Anyone that knows anything about Vegas knows that the city and the casinos are joined at the hip in a very symbiotic relationship. They are almost one in the same in some regards. There are few other examples I can think of where local and state govt is as interactive and intimately partnered with private business as you find in Vegas/Nevada and that one single industry completely drives the economy.

That being said.........this is not a typical mass shooting. It's not a situation where a whackjob walks in to an office, school, theater, etc, and starts shooting. It is unprecedented in many ways. The shooter was a guest of the hotel. He was there for days. He used the hotel room as his position to carry out his crimes. He apparently used a service elevator in the hotel. Hotel employees made contact with him before he started shooting. Questions about security and police response time. All of these things are going to be huge factors in the massive lawsuits that are coming. Careers will be destroyed. MGM could likely not survive this. The actions and inactions of the police will be put under a microscope. This will go on for years and it will be ugly as hell. Operation CYA is fully underway.

There is still a lot of crazy questions I would to have answers to and for someone to somehow piece together this guy's biography and account for where the money came from, or confirm if he really had this kind of money at all. Those parts we may never know.

I'm starting to think:

  • Paddock shoots Campos, reports it to his MB boss
  • MB bosses hesitate on calling the police to try and contain the incident and avoid bad press
  • Paddock goes on killing spree
  • MB bosses "encourage" Campos to report that he was shot after Paddock had already begun firing as a CYA, and Campos does as he's told and then goes into hiding
  • In the rush to release information, LVMPD/FBI goes with Campos' story because it also provides them a solid story about their response, release timeline, laud Campos as a hero
  • Someone in the media and/or LVMPD & FBI uncover discrepancies and/or interview maintenance man, confront MB
  • Campos comes clean, remains in hiding
  • LVMPD and FBI do not want to backtrack on the story, so they obfuscate, but the discrepancies start growing
  • LVMPD and FBI are forced to release a new timeline

So there is a cover-up, but it has more to do with MB CYA'ing and trying to hide that they did not immediately report a shooting

Yep. They had all the time in the world.

In six minutes, think about 6 minutes, the hotel operator and security contractor after someone tries to kill a security guard on normal rounds will contact the police, the police formulate an "alert", and then miraculously notify about 25,000 people on the ground that some ******* is going to open fire on the 25,000.

And somehow the hotel operator was complicit with staging the shooting and was directly involved?

Is that the idea?

I think you raise the key issue though, and what their fear is -> perception. How does one view those 6 minutes (or whatever the actual response time was by all parties)? Because that perception is what gets you drug in the mud via the press, gets you sued, and gets juries to side with plaintiffs.

has anyone commented on the fact that in the picture it looked like Paddock had been shot in the chest? was he?

Initially the police said that they breached the room and shot him, but then changed it to found him dead...seems like a simple confusion of words or fog of war, but it did look like in the picture he had been shot centermass.

edit: I guess looking at the picture again it could just be a shadow of a crease on his shirt.

The only explanation I have heard is that he saw some cops on his cameras down the hall and he offed himself before they could storm the room and take him alive. Sounds very not plausible.

For real. It may not be a sinister plot, but more to protect MGM from liability.

The Tsarnaev brothers steps all the way to and from the bomb sites were all over peoples TVs two days after the Boston Marathon Bombing, yet in this case, in a casino of all places, we have not seen a single second of footage of him anywhere in the hotel (that he was in for a week). I guess the case can be made that in the BMB, they were still at large so the FBI did it to get help identifying them, but still...

there is knowledge that he might have used a freight elevator, which require security escort/access, and the first thing they didnt do is look at the tape? Was he alone? That would be a good thing to find out, and it should not take nearly two weeks to pull the footage. How would they know he used the elevator if there was no footage of it...if they have the footage, and they didnt release it, why?

this thread is starting to get annoying. I think people need a better understanding of what a conspiracy or cover-up can be. Very few of us believe this is one of the bigger picture type conspiracies like CIA agent, ISIS, gun runner, etc., but those things are certainly possibilities.

Even if this is nothing more than the casino and government trying to cover their asses.....that's a COVER-UP or CONSPIRACY. It doesn't have to be some elaborate, grand scheme to be that. At the very least, it looks like a lot of people and organizations are trying to be careful here and wiggle out of any mishandling of the night in question. I think we all understand why. Part of me can't blame anyone for doing that, but you're still covering stuff up!
