I wondered about this too. How did he attract no attention getting that many guns of that size into his room? There's people watching every move made in Vegas

I guess if he did it over a period of days then maybe it isn't that difficult

The training could be all in his mind, rehearsed may be a better word.

Huge ammo cache.

Cameras Set up as recon

Corner elevated room with two perches

Shooting stands in the room

Stolen Identitiy

There stalking for days

Executed and had an escape plan.


That all requires some form of training/planning/rehearsing/ whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, I edited my post. Been to Vegas over a hundred times and seen lots of people with cases,etc. but that would be a lot of gear. Guessing he just made many many trips from the 28th on

Yeah, he drives there. Unloads a ton of luggage at the door and the valet takes it up to his suite. Not suspicious at all for any hotel and certainly not Vegas.

I know at least some swat units in big cities are trained in firing from a chopper. I would assume they'd have that training in Vegas given the buildings on the strip.

Going to be in vegas starting Saturday. Got tickets to Michael Jackson One at MB.

The honest truth is, I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened in Vegas before. Basically zero security when it comes to getting weapons into anywhere, tons of people congregated in a small area. I'm stunned it took this long for something awful to happen

He could have brought it all in using big pelican cases that are used to transport convention displays, etc.

As for housekeeping, a do not disturb sign on the door.

The most logical answer is that he made multiple trips over multiple days bringing basic looking luggage up and no one would have had a clue. He checked in on the 28th

you stick the "do not disturb" sign up. i do this regularly when traveling with camera gear

You can split the upper and lower on an AR and put 5 or 6 of them in a medium sized duffel.

I think since he checked in on the 28th it's likely he did it a few trips at a time, but I don't think it's impossible to sneak in 10 guns at one time. Those of you that can't get past this haven't been to Vegas.

Could probably do it all in 3, maybe 4 golf cases.

Going to Vegas is going to change after this. Expect medal detectors and security everywhere now

Yeah, eventually you could do that--although IIRC they tried something like that with Whitman and he was able to hold them off by shooting at the aircraft, although it definitely limited his ability to target pedestrians on the ground.

That's a time consuming operation, however. You need a pilot, a sniper and a helicopter, none of which are presumably in the same location when the call comes.

I think the reality is that in any event like this, the vast majority of casualties are going to occur before it is possible to mount an effective response. Shooter's potential targets are going to rapidly decline as people run away from where he is.

Maybe I'm just a miser, but I've never felt the fiscal liberalness to throw $100 at a room when I have a bed 9 miles away.

Vegas porters and staff are probably used to don't ask don't tell regarding what might be in baggage, too.

The thing that blows my mind besides the horribleness of it in general is how he was able to gauge the drop at that distance in the dark shooting at a down angle without tracers and stay on target, even one that big. Was he checking with a spotting scope?
