Thankyou Governor Abbott for saying this. City regulations diminish greatly property rights. Tree ordinances for one. Now cities such as NewBraunfels have implemented water quality runoff regulations from developments that cost a bunch of money and city staff admits that the public benefits from these regulations cannot be determined. Every city regulation should be defined by cost to property owners versus benefit to the public. If you cannot measure benefit to public then a new state law should be enacted to eliminate it. Our cities are enacting ordinances that look like California.

Oh, and to channel Dave Berry, Smallpox Large would be a great name for a rock band.
How do you give ISD's a pass. Agree with the rest. They compose 75% of the property taxes. high schools around here are lavish compared to what I went through. And yet worthless since teachers cant get control of their classrooms. Horrible waste in education these days.Duncan Idaho said:APHIS AG said:And I wonder where do the people that bring forth these ordinances come from?agneck said:

Goldilocks government.
Federal government is too big.
Local government (except ISDs) is too intrusive
State government is just right

Don't know about other cities, but New Braunfels specifically has historically been the victim of floods 72', I believe one in the 80's, 98', 02', 10' or 11' and also considering the amount of the money generated by people traveling to enjoy the clear clean cool rivers. It is most definitely in the public and economic interests of the city to portect the rivers and potential flood run off when managing new development.
Not all cities have the economic and flood related risks when considering runoff but New Braunfels does.
Yeah, that's definitely it.agneck said:
Obviously the only people on this thread owns no property except for the house and lot it sits upon. Therefore you don't understand property rights and the assault that comes from city regulations that will cost you lots more money when you want to upgrade your living quarters.
Wow. When someone has an epic fail like OP did, I both enjoy the ensuing ribbing that they get, and I look forward to the OP's return to see how they have become the butt of some pretty good jokes. It's good for everyone to be humbled from time to time.agneck said:
