Beautiful. If you want a real copy, I know we can get you one. How about if we sent the Sister missionaries? ;-)

Guitarsoup:

I don't mean to sound nitpicky, you can agree or disagree with me on this, but when I read those verses you referenced, they don't say that we go to Heaven to dwell with God, but that God comes down to earth to dwell with man:

quote:
Revelation 21:2-3: And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.

quote:
Jesus took the theif on the cross to "paradise" which may or may not be heaven.

The Hebrew word for "Paradise" is Eden.

Maybe so Bracy.

And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to be with me, so that you may be where I am.

To me that says that we will be taken away to where Jesus is.

Heaven's location - whether on earth or elsewhere or purely spiritual is kinda inconsequential to me. I am more big picture, and I think that God's grace saves us and because of that Grace, we are able to go to heaven - whether it be down here, up there or completely spiritual.

Maybe earth is made into a new Eden. I dont think there is anyway we can say for certian with the clues we have been given.

So, do Liam and ibmagg accept the challenge?

I spoke for myself already. How long do you project this will take me? The Book of Mormon takes at least several weeks, if you really hit it hard.

It took me about a week.

Or if you're OCD like Bracy, a week...

Well, I think I bit off the larger book. Just from glancing at the on-line book I linked for you, I suspect you can read it in one or two evenings.

My computer has been down but I accept the challenge and I will buy you both a nice dinner. I just spoke to Tom McMullin,, The LDS Institute director who teaches a course on the Pearl of Great price and is very familiar with the issues raised. I will be getting from him in the next few weeks info that will more than take away your concerns about the validity of this work.

One of the writers, who was going around the evangelical churches some years back with his expose of the Pearl of Great Price, was touting his many advanced degrees. Unfortunately these diplomas came from "diploma mills' and to his chagrin, and those who quoted him so profusely as this great authority, had him and his writings totally discredited. But there is more to "the Book of Breathing" that is totally facinating.

LIAM, Call me at home at 972/233-2604. I need to talk to you. This will be fun.

Well, gents, I am excited. Please bring your marked up copies of "By His Own Hand Upon Papyrus: A New Look at the Joseph Smith Papyri" with you, and I will bring my copy of the BoM which I imagine I will have highlighted. I am now in Fort Worth, so maybe we can meet somewhere in Arlington. We can work out the details once we finish our reading.
