"However, we are also free to reject Christ and to turn away from God by choosing sin and separate ourselves from Him. Nothing I do can save me, but what I choose to do by rejecting God's love could damn me eternally."
So, John was wrong?
"They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us."
1 John 2:19 NASB1995
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?" And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you , depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
Matt 7: 21-23"
It's pretty simple. There's only one work to be done, and even that is given to us by Christ.
"Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.""
John 6:28-29 NASB1995
He paid the price, he gets all the glory. I am elect. I don't know why, I have no idea why he would choose me. But he did. Before time ever began.
And it is forever. Nothing I can do, or say will make a difference in that outcome:
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.""
John 10:27-30 NASB1995
"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
