"Almighty God, you have given your only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born [this day that we celebrate] of a pure virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen."

Interesting that "Joy to the World" was actually written about the second coming of Christ.

Also written by Reformed Isaac Watts…

I prefer Christian Isaac Watts. We are all brothers in Christ. Reformed, Catholic, Non Denom, Orthodox, Protestant, etc.

Merry Christmas!

Yep, and we all have our flaws and are mistaken as to some of our beliefs, even Isaac Watts!

Which one is the Romans 9 discussion.

And, as a suggestion, you might get more discussion if you refrained from posting walls of text that you are simply copying and pasting from other (usually unspecified) sources. No scholar does that; it implies that you lack true understanding of the point you're trying to make. A short and concise summary would not only be vastly preferrable but might generate discussion.

Sure. In academia, we always site sources. Haven't you ever written a research paper?

Above is the thread on Romans chapter 9.

Instead of stating that men like Isaac Watts were off or something like that, validate your claims at your convenience at the above thread link.

I am very, very familiar with academia. But in academia one's writing is also supposed to be one's own, with citations to sources that support your factual assertions or to which you must give credit for your ideas.

You're not doing that. You're not providing us with your own ideas or syntheses, but rather simply copying and pasting mass quantities of text. In addition, the text you've copied may have footnotes, but you frequently do not provide a link to the source of your mass quotes.

Finally, shorten your posts! Walls of text will not be read by most.

P.S. Most importantly, we're not in academia (by any stretch) on this forum.

Agree. I have published some scientific articles when I taught at the med school. You do not write article's copying and pasting walls of other articles or book's statements.

And I believe that Romans 9 is talking about nations and Jews/Gentiles and not individual salvation.

Also will point out that the majority of Christians and theologians are not Calvinists and interpret Roman's 9 differently than Reformed.

And with all due respect, whenever I post Scripture like 1 Timothy 2 3-4, Luke 2:10, etc. you are very dismissive, post a wall of words, and refuse to even entertain a different interpretation.

You also refuse to read any books, even ones by a brilliant Greek scholar like David Bentley Hart, because of their lack of belief in supposed inerrancy.

The words of Scripture are the words of Scripture. The question is which interpretation is correct.

That is why I like to go to the Orthodox interpretation a lot.

I've gone over this with you. And you won't discuss it.
You won't rebuttal by validating your claims with the text itself. If you believed in the sufficiency of Scripture, then you would take the time and respond.

And not all of my responses are that long at all.

I posted the Scriptures mentioned. You inserted words to fit with your theology because of surrounding context I believe.

I disagreed and you said the above which is totally untrue. I used the exact text. It did not matter. So it is useless to debate with you.

I am not Reformed and do not interpret Scripture the same way as you. And that is fine.

And you know that. I respect your opinion but disagree.

Merry Christmas!

To completely derail, I read the other day that Harvard's lawyers are arguing that what she did was not actual plagiarism. It appears that it clearly was, as plagiarism is currently loosely defined in the Academy. However, one minor benefit of this whole fiasco is that plagiarism may be more closely examined and tightly defined.

It is my impression that today's loose definition of plagiarism is using anything more than 4-5 words in a row without putting them in quotes, even if you credit and cite your source. IMHO, that is a ridiculous standard. The point of plagiarism is to prevent people from taking other's ideas and passing them off as their own. It is a form of intellectual property protection. So long as one is not copying and pasting wholesale, and always citing sources, where is the harm?

I really rolled up my sleeves in order to understand and follow Covid closely. I've read and tried to understand countless articles from medical journals. One thing I've come away with is how shoddy the research, analysis, and thinking is in the vast majority of medical journal articles. It really shakes my previous unwitting faith in the basis of modern medicine.

On behalf of the non-Abrahamic faithed people who lurk here, Merry Christmas to all of you!

The Breitenfeld & Lutzen like battles of words you have here have taught me more about Christian Theology and in-practice internal differences than I could possibly ever hope to learn anywhere else.

My genuine hope for everyone here is that we don't let and petty nonsense like politics, cultural wars, and pessimism get in the way of real things like friendship, family, and human connection.

I wish everyone health, success, and happiness today and for all of 2024!

Not true at all. Read the "Gospel is for the elect of every nation, tribe, and tongue."

Read my "What is a Jew" What is Israel in the New Covenant" thread.

Read the OP of the "Death, Hell, and the Grave" thread?

Respond to the text and substantiate your claims.
I support my claims with sources. That's the academic way.
