Definite thumbs up. He's probably my favorite Texas Country artist. I like 3rd Gear and 17 and Notel Motel. But pretty much all of his songs are great.

Definite thumbs up. When I went to go see him at the hall he stayed for an extra hour playing random crowd requests.

I missed him last time he was in Aggieland because I had to work. He's very good and has seemed like a nice guy the times I"ve met him at the bus before shows.

I like some of his songs, but I have to hate myself after he used the term 'legal litigation' in a song....

I love Aaron Watson, he's one of my favorite artists. He writes and sings quality traditional country and Western swing, and he's a heck of a nice guy too.

My favorites are probably Reckless, Something With A Swing To It, San Angelo, and Songs About Saturday Night (his most underrated song, IMHO).

He hasn't publicized it a whole lot because he didn't do it to make money or push his faith on others, but his gospel album, Barbed Wire Halo, is excellent as well.

^^Apparently. Aaron Watson went to Abeline Christian on a baseball scholarship but had to leave the team after he was injured in a weight lifting accident.

He even mentions it in his song "3rd Gear and 17." "I left that fall to play college ball but my dreams would all come to an end. Cause you know the big leagues never called..."

He is an Aggie fan though.

I was wondering that same thing. I started listening to Aaron back when I was in high school and no one had heard of him yet, because one of the Abilene radio stations gave him some airplay while he was just getting going in the music business. He took up music seriously after his baseball career was cut short, but he stuck around Abilene until he finished his degree at ACU in either 2000 or 2001. The last count I had, he still lives in Abilene, but he has said on multiple occasions, though, that College Station is kind of like a second home to him.

decent songs, terrible live show.

I actually like his live show better than his albums. One of the many times I saw him at the Texas Hall of Shame, he did a full encore (probably 30-45 minutes) of nothing but Waylon Jennings songs. That was great.

last friday his band just ripped for 30 minutes or so(hard to remember any sense of time that night), which is one of the main reasons i go see live shows

All of his mumbo jumbo babbling between songs is really annoying and takes away from what could be a good live performance.

I love his music, but I absolutely hate it when bands just go off on a rip for 30 minutes. If I wanted to hear people jam in their driveway, I'd go to my friend's house.

Also, if you've seen him more than once, his shows are all pretty much the same. Even the same stories, when you can hear him.

So, you're telling me that you don't like it when REK and his band jam for 20 minutes on a song?

That's one of my favorite parts of a live show.

If you think AW's guitar player is the best on the scene, you havent seen Stoney Larue.

If your commenting on Stoney's guitar player Rodney, he is legendary in Texas with the guitar. I heard from a couple of sources he is constantly ranked in the top 5 guitar players in Texas *all genres.

I am not sure if AW ever graduated from ACU? I think I remembering hearing at one of his concerts about a honorary degree. But that was the as the Shame and countless amounts of beer were consumed.

true, i forgot about stoney's guitarist before i declared aaron watson's guitarist the best on the scene. both improvise a lot of their solos when they play live, which is nice to hear these days. their styles are different though, stoney's is more blues/rock inspired while aaron's is more western.

another good up and coming player on the scene is josh owen. anyone with the balls to attempt an srv cover and then proceed pull it off decently gets my respect. and to the girl who hates bands going off on jams and extended solos, i don't even know what to say to you.

Last time I saw Aaron (Wild West in Lubbock, this February), he covered Jerry Reed's "East Bound and Down", and Aaron's guitarist would have made Jerry Reed, one of the all-time great country guitaristsA, proud.

If you listen to his Live at the Texas Hall of Fame album, there are a couple of songs where the guitarist gets to show off. He gets to play some rockabilly guitar at the end of "Songs About Saturday Night", and at the end of "If You're Not In Love" they switch over to a brief rendition of Flatt and Scruggs' timeless "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." It's excellent.

I'm not familiar with Stoney's guitarist because I'm not a Stoney fan, but Aaron's guitarist is top notch.

Rodney Pyeatt is Stoney's lead guitarist and he is really at the top of everyones list along with Coby Weir and Jason Lerma, Aaron's guy.

Rodney played in Selena's band at one time and if you have ever heard him do The House of the Rising Sun you will never forget it. His voise is really different and he can leave you thinking WOW sometimes.

For pure improvisation on the guitar, Coby is hard to beat. He goes zone on your azz and does things never before done and that he can't go back and repeat. You just have the moment.

Jason is very versitile and can tear it up if let loose. A crazy guy, try golf with him! He can play any style any time and you will not ever feel cheated.

Cody Canada is excellent and can do magic things on the guitar as can the now retired Kelly Turner of Cooder Graw fame.

We are blessed here in Texas no doubt.
