It's still a human being making choices and finding the sound they want through trial and error. Not a machine that is using all the data they've gathered to produce something FOR a human being.
I can make all the same choices using AI as someone going through samples. It's not like the prompt is just "make me a blues song". I can write the lyrics and have the AI use them, or make changes. I can even go find samples I like, or make them myself and give them to the AI to use. I can be very involved in the process or not involved at all. AI is just another tool.
But you can't tell a drum machine "make me a song that sounds like Linkin Park".
You can make a case for using it in certain ways and if that floats your boat then more power to you, but the argument that they aren't fundamentally different tools is silly.
Not sure how that is considered any less 'music'.
I didn't say it wasn't. The discussion is whether using AI to create music is just like using other digital tools, it's obviously not and I think it's disingenuous to argue otherwise.
It's also not something I personally have any interest in listening to, as I don't think AI music has the same value and soul as something created by a skilled musician.
