I'm hearing a lot more music created using AI. There are a few that I'm really enjoying their product.

What are your thoughts?

Honestly I don't care. So much music today is autotuned to hell, written by professional committee, and mixed by jackasses to create a corporatized sound that there's probably more creativity in AI generation than what comes out of studios.

Plus there are creators like There I Ruined It that utilize AI as just another tool or instrument to make truly entertaining music I can easily get behind and would actually pay for.

I think its just a matter of time before humans are scrambling for work

I just listen to the same stuff I listened to growing. Maybe listen to a couple new ones a year that I like so I'm not listening to any AI stuff

I saw a pretty cool AI music video about Dungeon Crawler Carl, typically butt rock crap, but fun for what it was. I dont see myself ever seeking out AI music or adding any to a playlist

Music hasn't been the same since the 90s and early early 2000's. There's no heart in music anymore, no emotions, just empty words and loud autotunes. Now days, I've been listening to a lot of EDM or Trance music on spotify and youtube. AI is the future, a person sitting in their bedroom with a laptop and sound board can pump better music than what is out there right now.

Iron West
DjTexx
Ragal Ironbull
Truck Stop Vibes
VYRA~Nova
Dark Horizon
American West
DJ Kort Broek.

List goes on and on. Currently listening to Best of Trance 2026 by TranceNova1.

Music is an organic, soulful, human creation with imperfections and nuances that our conscious brains don't hear, but our subconcious does. Humans have soul; AI simulates soul. When someone is down, when a loved one dies, or after a horrible divorce or loss, I hope that if they listen to music to heal, it's real human music, not computer-generated noise that sounds almost exactly like human music. If not, then why are we even here?

I think these are 2 different things, AI generated is one thing, someone with a laptop and sound board is different to me. Someone like fred again.. unquestionably uses a lot of sequencers etc but its still human created/inspired with experience and feelings drawing on that rather than someone typing a text prompt and hoping to vibe something out. For me part of music and any creative sound endeavor is trying to see how to replicate what you hear in your head and manifesting that using whatever tools you can. I suppose AI is a tool but to me the leap between a text prompt and actual music is too far of a gap for a machine to make.

It's trash and I hate the very concept down to the center of my soul.

But

As with all things like this, it is here to stay and it will gradually wear down the barriers of folk like me until we stop caring. We may never embrace it but we will accept that it has a place in the industry.

That being said, I am a metalhead and that genre will probably be the last holdout against it in general use.

AI music goes against absolutely everything music exists for. It emulates emotions and breaks them down into 1s and 0s. It steals musical ideas from real artists and forms them into an idea of perfect. Life imitating art is endearing, AI imitating art is perverse and insulting.

AI is fine if used to speed things up like travel research or trip planning. I've done that myself and it's super efficient. Cut what would have taken me half a day to plan down to a 20-30 minute "conversation" with Gemini

I'm absolutely against it for anything related to music or art. It doesn't have the soul or heart in it that humans add

Granted most of today's ****ty music doesn't either but the point stands

I think it will have its moment and will exist from here on out. Its the full extension of the auto-tuned and synthetic music world. But i also think it will create a bounceback movement where the population sees the importance of real people playing instruments and singing. Hopefully it creates a renaissance of sorts.

Agree. I'm not even sure why you want to seek music out that you know wasn't created by a human being.

I'll go a step further than others and say that I think people who listen to AI music have no taste. Not just bad taste - no taste.

We're clearly already living in a simulation. An alien somewhere laughs its ass off every time a Yoko Ono song is played. Not the DJ remix fad crap. The original abomination.

I'll go against the grain. I think the covers are fun to listen to. Like this one. But other than that I prefer real music from real people.

An mp3 encoder breaks digitizes music like a vinyl record plays vibrations with a needle. Not similar to AI at all.

A lot of what I listen to are those "dark country" covers of other songs…those are just a lot of fun to me. And now that I reflect on it, most of what I do listen to is AI covers of original music.

But there are a few that while not perfect, man they are good….

I'm against AI music and really using AI for anything creative.

There's definitely a novel aspect to it, but over time is all just becomes undistinguishable slop. It all starts to sound the same because it's just copying whatever is already out there. That's why you see a lot of AI companies buying old physical books to scan and train their models on. As AI starts to become trained on other AI created materials, what they produce quickly declines in quality. It can't exist without feeding on human created art.

Take a look at any local facebook or community group. Nearly every single flier or graphic will be made with AI and they all look the same.
  • Same font.
  • Same layout.
  • Same design choices.
  • Same "feel".
You can spot them a mile away.

For me it comes down to the reverse centaur problem. We should strive to use tech/AI to replace the legwork style tasks which would free us to focus on creative pursuits. Instead we are increasingly handing over the creative aspects of our lives to AI. What we end up with is a reverse centaur. Horse head, human body.

There are a few AI music channels I follow. For background music while I work or when we have some friends over for cocktails and dinner, I usually put on Cocktail Hour Companion. Here's a track from the first album, Spacey Cakes.

There are lots of similar "background" channels on YT, but CHC is better than most at both producing and promoting the music. The albums are available on Apple Music as well. A CHC app was released a few weeks ago.

For a better example of how AI can be used to produce original music, give promptgenix a listen.

Did you ever get one of those truck-stop cassette tapes of someone's greatest hits and pop it in and realize that something sounds slightly off, and it's not the Craig receiver, and you realize that you got one of those recordings where the band had been horribly screwed by the record company so they tried to re-record their hits, but of course you can't catch lightning in a bottle twice?

That's what A.I. music sounds like.

I was prepared to not like that but dang ... you're right, it's awesome.

Goes to show that song with hooks can be interpreted lots of different ways. Kinda like the acoustic versions that were so popular with shows like "Unplugged."

I understand your opposition, but respectfully, AI is no different than any other tool that makes work easier, including creative work. It can be used skillfully or poorly, like any musical instrument. The toothpaste is out of the tube; you can't force it back in, wish it away, or ignore it.
