Ha, now that she's divorced, I straight up suggested this to my friend who's working on it - I said it'd be guaranteed to do a billion - but it's a definite no-go. That's when I was told who's actually in talks, re: the female lead.

Racing a car at his age seems somehow even more implausible than flying a fighter jet.

Seriously, though, I literally can't say. Filming begins in February, so we'll almost assuredly hear at some point this fall, if not sooner. I don't even know what the role entails, I just know that it's a big enough name to imply that it's not simply "the girlfriend" or "the concerned wife" or whatever. That's the only reason I mentioned it, because they're clearly doing something different here than with the love interests in, say, Maverick or F1 or whatever. But the news hasn't broke yet and I don't want to get anyone in trouble. Also, there's a chance it may change, though it did sound like a done deal to me. We shall see.

Hollywood: let's make a sequel to Days of Thunder!

Speak for yourself, I for one welcome the long awaited sequel

What Tom Cruise wants Tom Cruise gets. And for whatever reason, he very much wants a Days of Thunder sequel. So much so that he's prioritized it over a third Top Gun. Trust me, no one had to talk him into it. He's been leading this charge from day one.

Also, here's another tidbit instead...

An F1 sequel is happening too, though it almost assuredly won't be directed by Joe Kosinski, who directed the first one. He's busy with the Miami Vice '85 reboot, which releases May 19, 2028, the same summer as the Days of Thunder sequel.

However, as has been reported, and is still very a much a thing, Kosinski then wants to direct an F1 / Days of Thunder crossover with Pitt and Cruise that, I can add, would take place AFTER the events of the F1 sequel and the Days of thunder sequel. And I know for a fact Pitt and Cruise are both game.

The problem is simply scheduling and, of course, the ages of the two leads. Kosinski still has his big UFO movie to direct after Miami Vice '85, but then he's also obviously being pressured to do the third Top Gun movie (seeing as he directed Maverick). Though, it's sounding more and more like a different director will take those reins.
