Saw it today. Went in 100% blind.

Weird, but creative movie. Definitely not for everyone.

Can't say that i liked it, but I didn't dislike it. Won't see it again, though.

I think you will change your mind, I said the same thing yesterday and I just bought tickets to see it again tonight.

The thing that has stuck with me is that this is a movie watching experience, it's not a movie. It breaks the mold for how movies are supposed to be digested by the audience, in a way that birdman only hinted at.

I am far from a haute couture artsy fartsy movie gourmand, but this movie should be celebrated for trying something different than the standard formula.

I don't want to over exaggerate but I think this will start an entirely new movement in cinema, and I think it will be for much the better.

I will take this any day over the Mummy 7: Tokyo Drift or Jurassic Park 9 Electric Boogaloo reheat and serve

Bomb of epic proportions.

And it makes sense. I consider myself a pretty big cinephile, go to the movies at least 3-4 times a month, and I lost all interest in this after the first trailer.

Tom Cruise was the only reason I had any interest to begin with, because I honestly find most Iñarritu movies pretentious as hell.

This doesn't surprise me in the least.

Is this the biggest money loser ever for a big budget film?

There was a Saudi film with a bunch of western actors - Desert Warrior, maybe? - that may hold that crown. But this one is still way up there.

Yep made $780k on a $150,000,000 budget. Started Anthony Mackie, Ben Kinglsey and a few D listers

The Marvels might technically be the biggest bomb but I don't understand how it has a reported budget somewhere like $400m. That's some major ballooning. COVID and writers strikes sure but that's still more than Infinity War and Endgame.

I assure you, you are whatever kind of movie snob you think you're not.

Saw it yesterday with the wife. I avoided as much review content as I could and was blind as to the nature of the twist.

I was thoroughly entertained. I think this will be much more praised as time goes on.

Beautiful visuals. Remembering that this director did Birdman made things "click" for me a bit more.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for something new and interesting at the theater.

So I got bored and looked up the "twist" thing that happens that's seeming to be pissing a lot of people off….

Yeah….i can see why. For the sake of those interested in this thing I won't even post it here with spoiler tags.

Obviously there's some folks that liked it too….but this is one of those that….man…..yeah I likely wouldn't have liked it.

It is a bold move though…you want something different? Go see this.

After reading your comment I read an article with full spoilers about some plot twists and it actually made it sound kinda interesting. Agree it's pretty bold.

Oh wow thats wild. Glad I read it. I would have never seen it without reading that. While it spoils it for sure it does make it slightly more interesting.

I read the whole spoiler article, and I'm glad I did. I'm another one who will now POSSIBLY stream it when available.

But come on Tom Cruise! If you're going to do stuff like this, then you owe us a Les Grossman film.

I have had the same experience. I walked out saying "man that was interesting but I'm not sure it was good."

Since then I have had only positive thoughts about it and am excited to watch again with my wife.

Thought it was great! Tom Cruise was awesome. I wonder if he'll be up for best actor? I'm gonna read the scoops and probably watch it again.
I want to watch bird man again as well.

The backlash to the backlash + the reactions here + my own curiosity about the twist finally got me to see this, and I'm glad I did. I'm not going to say it's a great movie, or one that I'll ever watch again, but it's so unique, looks stunning, and is such a huge, memorable swing that I can't help but appreciate it. To the point where I feel dumb having criticized certain conclusions I jumped to / read earlier, seeing as the twist literally changes all of that. Granted, it's still a bit too grating, over-the-top, and on-the-nose at times, but at least there's more of a point to that stuff now. All I know is that I walked out of the theater impressed and satisfied.

I thought I read that a good portion outside of Mackie and Kingsley went to build the studio facilities and infrastructure so it was more of a proof of concept than a movie. But I have been know to completely make things up.

the weird thing is that over the years I have heard Cruise talk about wanting to do a Les Wesman movie

and he kind of alludes to that in interviews for Digger

it would have been much more successful if he just played the same character and made fun of Hollywood

Thanks, reading the spoilers article actually made me more interested in seeing it. I'm pretty open these days to seeing something new and different in the theatre that isn't horror or franchise. Or 3-4 hours long.
