it will be tough for a satire with a fat/old tom cruise to appeal to the masses.

maybe Wes Anderson style numbers? plus the halo effect of having tom cruise in it.

Man, I love Tom Cruise, and was super excited to see this... until I watched that trailer. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I just don't get it. The makeup looks so bad, it looks so low-budget, the story doesn't seem interesting, nothing about it looks good to me. I hope it does well and he wins an award but yeah, upon first glance, I really can't imagine watching two hours of that. Two minutes felt painful.

exact same reaction I had after watching it yesterday.

Ditto. Big fan of Tom, but this just looks dumb. Not sure why you want Tom Cruise for this particular role....and not sure if you are Tom's agent, why you recommend this role. Guess we will see, but doesn't look great.

No comment on the potential movie. But my issue is my brain is screaming "that's tom cruise in a costume!" every time he's on screen. While that worked in Tropic Thunder, not sure 2 straight hours of it will work.

And it's odd that it seems like I'll have a harder time suspending disbelief when it's tom cruise is in costume than when it's just tom cruise.

No clue if I'll like this or not, but I don't plan to miss a Tom Cruise movie in theaters.

Not yet to Denis Villenueve or Nolan but Innaritu gets the benefit of the doubt from me.

It's kind of crazy how much they are spending on advertising this far out. I am seeing ads and promos for this thing everywhere.

Well in order to get the Oscar buzz we all know you got to thread the needle on their criteria. Good luck! I agree that it looks a little forced.

In a world of regurgitated IPs (how many spidermans can yall stomach?) and countless reboots, I'll definitely see something original, weird, and new opening weekend.

I'm looking forward to this. Hollywood has just churned out a bunch of lame crap for years. Maybe an original idea this time?

Opened this thread and saw "Digger" and "Oil" was hoping it was a Digger Barnes origin story!!

On a side note, I'd love to see a cinematic version of "Dallas: The Early Years". I know we had a made for TV version which was decent, but retelling of the Texas oil boom and Jock Ewing and Digger Barnes feud would be great.

Saw the trailer before the Odyssey. What the ****?!

This looks bizarre as hell, and I generally like bizarre movies. But, I don't know about this one...

A pretty big potential spoiler about this movie got dropped so if you don't want to be spoiled be careful. Whether it is real or not I am not sure but I find it believable given certain things about what we have seen

That was the only movie that comes close, in my mind.
Imagine if Cruise went full on Peter Sellers and played multiple roles.

I'm quite content with the five Spidermans we've got.

Its gotta have the right combination of woke, affirmitive action hired cast memebers with gross historical innaccuracies in the story line, but also be taken as historical truth, to win an Oscar.

This is one of those movies where you can't possibly figure out what the movie is based on the trailer. Could be fantastic or could be a dud who knows. TC hasn't taken on too many complete bombs so I believe there must be something to this movie but it's the type I will wait for a week or two after the opening after common folk reviews are in. I'm hoping it's a smash because I want original stories instead of regurgitated blockbuster drivel.

Are we talking about the rumor/theory that this is a musical? Does that need to be spoiler tagged?

Rotten tomatoes reviews seem to be either love it or hate it. I'm still intrigued.

Reactions are so bad from critics I trust that I don't think I'm going to see this in theaters anymore, which I can't believe I'm saying about a Tom Cruise / Alejandro Inarritu movie. It just sounds like such a brutal, preachy slog. The latest trailers haven't done much for me either, but I was hoping, like with The Odyssey, the trailers just weren't doing the movie itself justice. Granted, yes, some people are loving it, and maybe I will too, but right now, for me, the desire just isn't there. Especially when, looking at the calendar, I'm seeing at least one if not two movies in some instances, in theaters, every week from here until the end of the year. In other words, it'll be nice to take a weekend off before the end-of-year sprint. This one's going to be a wait-and-see-at-home effort for me, otherwise it would just feel like movie-going homework.
