Saw this over the weekend, I had remembered the trailer from a while back but the wife had completely forgotten about it so she went in relatively blind thinking we were wasting our time.

Great movie - thought provoking, really well done with the lighting and the shifts - actress did an awesome job of pivoting personalities on a dime.

I'll echo what someone earlier in the thread said, we've seen 25 movies this year, this is definitely my favorite thus far.

I actually enjoyed Mercy far more than I thought I would.

How to Make a killing was just plain fun

Hokum was good though it did end up being quite different than I expected

I think this movie is really speaking to the current state of dating and really driving a lot of viewings. I would be fascinated in seeing demographic splits

Saw it again with my daughter. I'm a good dad. She really liked it. It was easier to watch the second time.

Where was Nicki when Bear called Customer Support? She was screaming in the background. Just some other universe?

FWIW

My son went last night with some friends. He gets home and tells the wife and I that the theatre was completely packed and they had to sit in the front row. This is Georgetown, TX on a Tuesday night. We're not exactly the most exciting place for young people lol.

Granted many of the college kids are home but still.

Paranormal Activity had a smaller budget.

Quote:

The original Paranormal Activity (2007) had an incredibly small production budget of just $15,000. Director Oren Peli financed the film himself, shooting mostly in his own house. When Paramount Pictures acquired the film later, they invested an additional $200,000 in post-production and marketing, bringing the total overall investment to around $215,000.

Not sure if they're not counting it because it wasn't number 1 opening weekend, but Wiki says it did hit #1 several days of its release.

Either way, cool trivia but a bit cherrypicky imo.

Saw it today. Fantastic horror film and really enjoyed it. Even the ending I thought was great (in a bleak way). Glad they didn't end it with a reverse "psych! Everything's back the way it was again!" Ending

Just got back from watching it with our friends and it was awesome. I normally wouldn't spend the time to post on a movie, but man, seeing it in a full theater with the crowd reaction was awesome.

This is really interesting to watch in real time. I wonder how many studios are saying "hey…how can we do this?"

Saw it last night with my 17yo who doesn't normally like these kind of movies and we both loved it.

My girlfriend and I went to see this yesterday, really excited about it and expected great things after seeing the reviews (both love horror).

Honestly we were both disappointed that it was much more manufactured cringe-horror than genuinely scary. It felt like there was supposed to be a plot twist (or an actual plot or moral) that they chickened out on in the end and it was boring and predictable. None of the characters were likable in the least and nothing beyond very surface level dynamics were explored. The premise was great, don't get me wrong- they just couldn't make it interesting or give it any depth and upped the cringe as an alternative to story or explaining literally anything of why it was happening. Haven't been this disappointed in years.

Horror movies are the best because they can be anything and come from anywhere. This movie, carried by 2 completely unknown actors, written and directed by a completely unknown Youtuber, with a shoe string budget was the best thing I've seen in some time.

While maybe not the best date movie for you and a significant other, it's a great installment in the 'be careful what you wish for' genre.

I cannot stress how bamboozled I was with the lead actors. None of that movie works without them just ballin out and if Inde Navarette isn't nominated for an Oscar, I'll be stunned.

So many good scenes but when he walks back into the gem store or whatever covered in blood looking for another willlow wish and the cashier is like "I'm just ****ing with you, we got some right here"…it floored me. Leaning into the magic/myth that on its face would seem absurd lol

I vaguely remember seeing the teaser trailer for this one awhile back but I didn't realize it had so much humor which I really appreciated as I don't typically watch horror movies in the theater.

The party scene was hilarious and anyone who has ever been in a situation where someone won't get out of your car can relate to the absurd moments throughout this film which are followed by horrific tension.

IMO, it struck a nerve with what has to be the most coveted demographic to fill theaters. Teens/college age.

I'm sure social media is a driver but I don't think anything can beat plain old Americans teens saying "dude you have to see this movie".

My 20 year old has been twice already. The last time I can remember him seeing a movie the second time in a theater was Rogue One. He was 11.

To me, The Ring was scary AF and stayed on my mind for a bit until Queen Latifah popped that female dog with a frying pan.

Saw it Saturday night. Echo the same sentiments in here.

Sound design was AWESOME. Incredibly loud movie. Maybe it was my AMC?

Left that theater feeling 'unsettled' is the best word my movie partner and I could come up with.

Noticed a fly hovering around the movie about 1/3 of the way into the movie. Anyone else notice that? I'll have to research it.

Loved both the unknown actors. That female lead was amazing. Loved how they shadowed her facade and lighted her eyes. Incredibly unsettling movie
