I'm still not a 100% on the timeline and I was also thinking about the dead grass and trees because at some point Mother Nature would return even after a Nuclear Winter unless something or someone was actively poisoning the soil/plant growth.

It hasn't been like 30 years or so. They went out of their way earlier this season to have the miner explain that based on the tunneling it's been about 300 years. I kinda think that was the shows attempt to try and anchor the silo in time a little bit.

But they can erase memories and retell history as they see.

Very possible it hasn't been 308 years

I know that, that's why I think having the miner mention the date based on how long it would take to dig the mines was a way of showing that the silo really is that old. That's not based on what someone told them or someone wrote down or anything, it's based on that miners knowledge of how long that construction would take.

I think it's possible the silo isn't as old as they think, but unlikely since they had a character say that.

They for sure knew. Not 100% the senator knew since she seemed to be genuinely practicing her speech, but seemed like everyone else from her camp was; so would be a little surprised if she wasn't.

The bigger question for me, is did they do it or just aware it was going to happen.

I thought it was clear they detonated the bomb. They had people from all over the world to assure genetic diversity for the silos. Dinner was scheduled right then so most people are already inside. The bomb then went off to herd in the rest. The bomb was too close to be a strike from elsewhere. All the talk about Iran felt like gaslighting. They started a nuclear holocaust on home soil to kick off the end of the world.

Definitely seems like Colin Hanks and a few others knew... but also, who the hell would be outside just minutes before a giant nuke is about to go off... So maybe it was just trying to build tension.

I think the final big twist will definitely be something on the actual passing of time since the nuke. Since we have magic, plot-device, memory drugs which somehow control the exact amount of forgetting that the writers need at the time - that's going to be how they'll pull it off.

I think the most likely scenario is that the key players from the modern timeline are alive. The congressman, his wife, Stensen, etc. So that would infer that it hasn't been anywhere close to 300+ years, or maybe there's some kind of cryo, or life extension... something. But the fact Tim Robbins basically told us, the AI is actually a real person makes me think this is what's going on.

Theory:

The blast the cleaners receive prior to going out to clean is the poison safeguard gas. It takes how ever long to kill the cleaner - the outside air is fine.

Proof is Lukas being shot. The hole in his suit would have killed him if the air outside was bad.

Thought this was already confirmed when what's her name went outside.

It's the suits. They give them crappy suits when they go out so the gas kills em.

When the mayor went out she had a bad ass suit from supplies that didn't leak

I thought I was bad with remembering names in tv shows and movies, but this might be next level. Unless you aren't referring to Juliette, the main character, here.

Yes, I think it has been confirmed that the outside air isn't poisonous and the cleaners dying is related to the safegaurd. Jimmy told whats her name that originally the people that went outside during the rebellion didn't die since his parents prevented the safeguard. It wasn't until the 'dust' came that they died. I'm guessing the 'dust' was his way of interpreting the nano-bots, but just guessing there. But Juliette going out to clean and surviving didn't really prove that b/c she had a good suit on to block the poison whatever the source, but Lukus surviving after the gunshot wound clearly showed that. They even said as much to the kids when they were asking them to open the door.

Also, I think they waited to reveal the nuclear bomb until now b/c it should be clear the outside air being poisonous is a lie.

On a side note, what was the rebellion there all about if they disabled the safegaurd? Why the conflict with the Head of IT if they were on the same mission, since it was them that disabled it. Why stuff Jimmy in the vault, or did they know about the redundant safegaurd? I could never tell when the wife asked that rebellion leader "do you think he was lying", if that he told them that it was or wasn't safe to go out.

We are finishing this show out mostly because we're so far in. It's been good ish.

However - I can't remember a show being so dadgum consistenly dark across scenes. As in, we have to strain to see what's actually happening on the screen.

I quit halfway through season 2 and only picked it back up when 3 dropped for that very reason. I felt like I was having to imagine what was happening. Anyway, glad I came back around. Season 3 has made it worth it.

Yeah those are the reasons that I said they for sure knew. They are suspect #1 but the US did just nuke Iran (well a few years earlier), so sure, they could just be the scapegoat, but also doesn't mean it couldn't be them. He mentioned someone in a basement somewhere leveraging nano-tech. AI could have went rogue.

I kind of hate the memory drugs being a thing in this world b/c the possibilities there are kind of endless too. Like, this could just be them 'remembering' what has been impressed upon them and the outside is fine. Or the doctor could be the evil one pulling the strings by making people forget things and then 'reminding' them of what their mission is. I still can't shake the sinister look he had while they flew off in the helicopter.

Sure, how would they know if they weren't the ones responsible, but also, why put themselves in harms way if they are going to bomb a city or the world. I'm guessing we get the answer this week though.

I think Jimmy ends up being the son of Daniel and Helen. And she is the mom that saved silo 18.

Lending some credence to this show taking place only 50 years after the nuclear blast. Jimmy looks to be about 50 after all. 50 years / 50 silos / 50 diggers.

The mom saved silo 17 is the only problem here. She was in Silo 18, though it is interesting that she was in the silo that's been the main setting for the show.

Hmm maybe the tour guide, Everett, is a young Bernard. He was kind of tall.

I'm still undecided about the age of the silos thing. Jimmy said it was 350 years old as did the algorithm in 18 (although Solo probably got the age from his parents via the algorithm too), and the miner claims it is over 300 years old, but that dead tree outside... it couldn't stay standing that long could it? Also, Bernard seeing the leaves on the tree as he was dying, that could have been a memory coming back to him disguised as a dying man hallucinating.

More likely Jimmy descended from Peter Gabriel

Daniel went to Silo 1 and I am not sure how Helen would have survived since she was on a hilltop away from silo 18. Also Jimmy was from silo 17.

I do wonder if Helen is going to have been somehow influential in the social structure of Silo 18 or something. Maybe the first mayor or something along those lines.

I clearly had my silos mixed up. I've been thinking 17 was the main setting of the show all along.

Regardless, wondering if Jimmy's parents would ever be revealed OR if we know what happens to Helen and Daniel's baby...

What a phenomenal season finale. The show has had some weak points, but they had to get through some of that so we can get to the really good stuff we're in now. Really looking forward to next season
