This movie got the biggest "buzz' reaction from our showing of Backrooms.

I hope Cinemark understands how hilarious it is to have the little promo of one of the Minions "finding the trailers" on a desktop computer filled with a billion files, but then for some movies it's non stop mature-rated horror trailers.

Yup. My roommate/lead actress ended up doing Shark Lake with Dolph Lundgren and the distributors I was talking to started cooling off shark movies. Also around that time SyFy was moving away from creature features. The new exec figured out she could just license Underworld and get more eyeballs than the movies of the week were getting.

Took my son to see Spiderman and saw this preview and it looks really good.

It's amazing to notice just how well Spielberg's Jurassic Park special effects have held up here, now 30 years later.

The first reactions started dropping yesterday and they've been unanimously positive so far, a couple from people I really trust. Sounds like it definitely delivers.

I don't understand the marketing of this movie. I would seem to be dead center in its targeted audience and the first thing I saw about it was a poster outside the theater when I went to see Spiderman the other day.

That's odd. I've caught quite a few of commercials for it lately, the stars have been making the late night / junket rounds, and the latest trailer has now played for nearly a month, for millions of people, in front of two billion-dollar grossers, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand new Day. I'm seeing it everywhere.

I didn't get a trailer for it in either The Odyssey or Spider-Man, strange.

Have we decided now that this isn't a secret Cloverfield movie?

I'm assuming these reactions are from an early invite-only preview hosted by the studio? Just guessing that the studio PR were pushing the "It's just like the good ol' Spielberg Amblin movies!" idea. Not to say that these reactions aren't genuine and that the movie isn't good, just pointing out that critics really need to stop parroting the lines given to them by the studios. It makes their review look less authentic.

Do we have to do hyper-analyze critic reactions every single time, especially after both The Odyssey and Spider-Man positive reactions mostly proved to be accurate? These are all from typical/standard critic screenings, not special, studio-hosted events, and I just pulled five or however many from countless others, that don't mention the Spielberg/Amblin stuff. That said, the comparison is obviously going to get brought up often, considering A) there just aren't that many dino movies outside of the Jurassic franchise, and B) it takes place in the early '80s, which Spielberg is obviously synonymous with. Also? Fennessey, for one, is about as trustworthy as they come, which is why I posted his first.

Lame, would be cooler if it was, lol.

I think after that last Cloverfield movie, that they surprised deputed after the Super Bowl whatever year that was, and it was torn apart by everyone, the Cloverfield name is pretty much dead now. It's been 18 years since the original, and a decade since 10 Cloverfield Lane, both of which I loved, but after so much time has passed, the name either doesn't mean much anymore or was soured by the last one.

The Cloverfield Paradox was very dumb, for sure. Still fun, but dumb. I also thought it would have been really easy to tie 10 Cloverfield Lane in more directly to the original.

But yes, makes me a little sad because I thought that it had some potential.

Also, by your page one definition, I think Star Trek qualifies as a secret Cloverfield movie lol

When its obvious in the early release reactions from damn near every big movie that the critics clearly repeat either the talking points that the studio puts out or the perhaps the common talking points from their post-movie group conversations they might have with each other, then sure I feel like bringing it up every now and then.

You posted four reactions and 50% of them said "Amblin-esq" and "Amblin-ish". That's not an organic coincidence, sorry. And I repeat, I don't doubt that either of their reactions were genuine. Actually, I was pointing out a simple tip for how they could come across as genuine in their tweets. I want to believe their reactions, but instead the same buzz words or phrases always pop up and it just adds doubt to the authenticity of the reactions.

Your annoyance that critics could be more original in their reactions is valid, but it's not like they coordinate with each other, and I promise you the studios aren't putting out "talking points," especially ones that any of these people would follow. That's not a thing or how it works at all.

If anything it's the opposite. Every critic wants to say something original so you'd think they'd go out of their way to avoid similar phrasing.

I've been getting a ton of positive tweets about this movie today in my feed. The marketing worked, i guess; just bought tickets for the fam.

Don't give a F about critics or reviews. Wife and I are going next week.

More and more reactions coming in tonight, after all the latest screenings, and they're crazy positive, so many of them from people I trust. I've seen probably 50 at this point, and only one has been negative. At this point, come Wednesday, it's almost assuredly going to have a Rotten Tomato score in the 90s. What a way to end the summer, with what looks to be yet another hit.
