Dunk must have been a busy man if in 90 years he's got descendants all over the place and of high- and low- birth.

Especially since we know from the Joffrey / Jaime book conversation that Ser Duncan the Tall becomes a member of the Kings Guard. Aren't they sworn to celibacy?

They're also sworn to protect their King, but along comes Jaime.

Side note, Dexter (Egg) was 2 years old at the time of this video.

And if you want to feel old, he wasn't even born when the Red Wedding aired.

Idk, they are baking in female relationships pretty heavy handedly. He's had private and funny or spark-like moments with 3 women in 4 very short episodes.

Side note, I think they absolutely nailed the casting for Baelor and Maekar. The perfect heir and the pri.ckly, stern warrior.

They nailed all the casting IMO, I can't think of one they didn't nail. I guess the actor playing Lord Ashford is kinda meh but that's the point of that character so I get it.

After a rewatch something else I noticed when Raymun bring Dunk to Ser Steffon he's eating the last bite of an apple and then he casually discards it...what great symbolism, he's throwing away his legacy for a lordship.

Also, notice Ser Lyonel later saying he's never ******* heard of Ser Steffon and that is was Egg who brought him to fight alongside Dunk. This means Steffon never even approached Ser Lyonel and that he likely knew he would betray Dunk even as he was telling him he would not let him die.

What a complete scumbag...almost as bad as Aerion.

Back to Dunk hesitating to knight Raymun, maybe this has been discussed, but I think the hesitation was that he knows he's not a knight and didn't want to taint Raymun's knighting. Whether Arlen knighted him or not, he knows the words. I think he was having a crisis of conscience that Baratheon bailed him out of

Could also be that he is weary of knighting someone who will most likely die in the battle (in his mind)

As I said, I think he just doesn't feel worthy of it. Fosaway is a great family and he's a hedge knight.

This was my first thought. He's worried he's going to get killed.

I thought that at first but he didn't hesitate to let Ser Lyonel knight him.

I agree...when he first meets Raymun sparring with Ser Steffon he's impressed with his skill and is surprised to learn he's a squire. I think he's reluctant because he knows he's never been knighted and doesn't want to "spoil" the act.

In the scene with Raymun and Steffon sparring, is that "stick" Raymun is using a weighted training tool? Curious on the hopes of him showing out in the trial combat.

Wasn't Raymun getting destroyed in this scene? And he wanted Dunk to step in and teach Stefffon a lesson? Or am I misremembering that?

I rewatched that scene in Ep1. He definitely loses, but you can tell he's done training. He's also not using a sparring sword, but something that looks heavier to practice defense only.

Thought this was interesting, gives some context and back story to the team i wasnt familiar with. Narrator says no spoilers but if you're a purist to the show you may want to avoid.

So here's a question for discussion. (Once again, not interested in book spoilers.)

Baelor and his Kingsguards will be fighting on opposite sides. Given that their sworn duty is to protect the crown prince, would they be forced to protect him during the combat?

I wonder if this already crossed his mind and he essentially weighted the trial heavily in Dunk's favor by joining his side.

lol ya that's what i thought. Baelor effectively sidelines the Kingsguard. Not sure how much sense it makes.

I don't even understand the goal of this trial by combat. Obviously it's over if Dunk is killed, but short of that does every last one of your 7 have to be killed. Not mad at the uncertainty, but idk if we're looking at 2 deaths or 10.

I think it is mentioned in the last episode is that either Aerion or Dunk must either withdraw their accusation or in Dunk's case submit/yield to the claim OR a side wins.

Fighters CAN either die or yield. It's not black and white to the death

They can "yield." They don't have to die. But, everyone is watching and these guys are prideful and don't want to look like punks (except Daeron.)

What's at stake is different for both sides. If the accuser (Aerion) dies, the accused (Dunc) is exonerated. Nobody else has to die. The reverse is true, of course. But the fight also ends if either Aerion or Dunc yields. The problem for Dunc is that yielding means his sentence will still be carried out because yielding is an admission of guilt. Aerion can yield without penalty; he is the accuser. Dunc is the only one on trial.

I'm curious what individual fights we see. Obviously, Dunk will want Aeron for this entire mess. Steffon and Raymun definitely want to fight one another. The guy who broke his leg will also want Aeron (if on horse). I want to see the Baratheon take on essentially anyone. Maeker and Dunk have the absolute most on the line, I guess. Maeker has sons at risk and technically he could be heir if Baelor is out of the picture, although answering for the heir's death might cost him his own life. I would add Baelor to that list, but there is zero way those Kingsguard touch him and such a small chance his own family will push things too far. I saw the trailer for Ep5 and if they play a flashback for most of the episode and we don't see much of the fight, I might boycott until the season's over and I can binge it!

If this were to happen for real, I can only imagine that the Kingsguard would stay away from Baelor and might even intervene to protect him from some of the non-Targaryen knights on Aerion's side. Baelor and Maeker seem to get along well enough that I don't see them going toe-to-toe with any real intent. Nor do I think Baelor would really try to kill Aerion. The Baratheon is also "cousin" to Targaryens, right? What a complicated mess.

For sure one of the Fossoways is dead.

No one was interested in this conversation when I made this post a few days ago.

I think Baratheon will bloody up one of the kingsguard since he already made mention of it to Dunc.

I can't really remember the episode, but wasn't one of the Kingsguard a jerk to Dunk or the locals when they showed up in Ashford?
