For those that loved ER back in the day, this is ERs spiritual successor (so much so that they are being sued by Crichton's estate), complete with Noah Wyle back as Dr. Carter…I mean Dr. Robby. First two episodes dropped tonight. "The Pitt" is both a reference to the city this is based in, as well as, an old school moniker for what many ER docs called the ER. It also uses the 24 gimmick of each hour long episode is an hour in the shows reality, as it spans 15 hours (15 episodes) in a single shift in "The Pitt".

It's probably the most accurate medical drama I've seen to date down to the annoying hospital administrator hounding the ERs medical director about falling patient satisfaction scores and sepsis metrics in the middle of him managing emergencies. I've seen reviews eye rolling at this last moment, but this actually does happen quite frequently in reality. They clearly got ER docs to review these scripts thoroughly.

I still much prefer the original ER due to its heart and heroics. Those guys were like super heroes on that show. It's part of the reason I decided to be an ER doctor.

This show is much more grounded in reality, much like the first few seasons of ER, if not more so. This show feels darker and more jaded and feels quite true to life of what it's like to work in a busy, under-staffed, inner city ER. I'd recommend it to anyone that loved ER. It's certainly not as good, but it scratches that itch.

ER doc myself. Intrigued by the trailer to watch also, and I usually can't stand medical shows anymore… except the first several seasons of Scrubs.

I once had a doctor tell me that the only realistic medical show -the one that actually captured what hospital life was life - is Scrubs.

He was just messing with me right

Scrubs is less about the medicine and more about the personal interactions of medicine, which is indeed very accurate (outside of the JD/Janitor interactions lol). Prior to The Pitt, I'd say the most medically accurate show was the first season of ER (at least for the time). Love's Labor Lost still haunts me as an ultra-realistic representation of how quickly things can lead to catastrophe in the ER with small mistakes.

The whole ER/Crichton estate thing on this is wild.

There's no escaping it- Noah Wyle is John Carter and they have rebooted ER.

Which- I'm here for. A grittier 2025 version of TV from 1994 (it's crazy to think it's 30 years later and Wyle is still doing this) where we can freely curse on TV? Sign me the fk up. But let's not pretend this isn't the same damn show.

Great post OP. We watched episode 1 last night as my wife is a nurse and LOVES ER. I give this a solid B after 1 episode and we will continue to watch. My two complaints are it is very medical, maybe more than ER. But with the subtitles on it helps. Also what I liked about ER was each episode had a set of patients come and go. Not sure I like the idea of a patient caring over from episode to episode. That might get old.
But there are some awesome characters. The non profit goody Dr. Med students, charge nurse.
Once again if you liked ER and have ever said "they don't make shows like they used to" after one episode, this is for you!

Good feedback. My wife is an RN as well and freaking loved ER and all shows medical. She enjoys the medicine side more than the drama, so will love this

I have not watched it, but my wife is an ER physician. She watched the first two episodes and said she's going to stop because it's the most realistic medical show she has ever seen and she doesn't want to watch her job on tv.

Still wanting to give it a try, but this is what I'm afraid of.

Mel Herbert and the rest of the EM:RAP crew helped with the script, so you know the medicine is going to be legit. Some of it very much feels like being at work, although with the acuity constantly turned to 10. I nerd out with medicine though, so I love it.

I like it but can be pretty intense. Not a binge it all in a couple of days kinda show for me.

I dig this so much. I'm 100% in! I really can't think of any complaints after 3 episodes. For as many "unknown" actors, they are all doing a great job playing their parts. The blonde, with glasses Dr. King, has been my favorite. She is nailing the shy, awkward, borderline spectrum doctor very well. She makes me laugh.

I have seen ER so many times it's become a running joke in our house. This is definitely ER part 2. This time with cussing! In fact, the patients are the same as ER. I can diagnose them just because I know from past episodes the symptoms they present.
Loving all the characters in this one. And I love the amped up medical dialogue. I feel liike I earned a nursing degree for how many times I've seen ER. With this one, I feel I could probably go to med school. Thumbs up!

I find it weird that anybody watched ER and said "I wanna be an ER doctor!!". One gets killed by a helicopter crashing on them, one was stabbed to death by a deranged patient, another died of brain cancer, another in an ambulance explosion, and probably a couple more I can't think of. And that is only the deaths. There are injuries as well.

John Carter watched his crush get stabbed to death, got stabbed himself, has a family trust fund, and is STILL doing this 25 years later in a different city, pretending to have a different name (because copyrights and what not).

Watched the first episode last night. It delivered! Definite flashbacks to ER. Some of the personalities are over the top but done tastefully and fit. So far casting and characters pass muster.

I was thinking it seemed way too technical for non-medical folks but my wife (accounting) enjoyed it anyway.

Seeing the teaser for this I was like "so we've come back to the only role Noah Wylie can play"

Good to hear the positive reviews though and I loved ER (at least the first half or so), may have to check it out.

Obviously you can't do real chest compressions, but the young white dude gives the worst fake chest compressions ever.

Noah Wyle does really well in this role.

I'm sensing that we're going to get into some more politically progressive themes.

Not a very enjoyable show, even if well done. Feels like "here's life in the ER. It kinda sucks, there aren't many wins, and everyone hates life."

To be fair, that's how ER was too.

They all hated life, eventually died, or if they didn't die, moved off bc they hated life so much.

I'd have to go back and watch it again, but it seems like it had more…I don't know, character development and emotional payoffs.

I've enjoyed it - it really is as if John Carter moved from Chicago to Pittsburgh and is running the ER. Would've been more fun if they were able to go that route and have cameos from Dr Ross, Dr Greene, Dr Benton and Carol.

However they are trying to check off every politically correct hot button issue in a single shift.
Across state line abortion - check
Minor with abortion without parental consent - check
Racial disparities causing misdiagnosis - check
Trans patient and changing the gender on their chart - check
Fentanyl Overdoses - check
Homeless patients - check
Medical directive and end of life conversations - check
Potential school shooter with a hit list - check

Character development over 5 hours of one shift

Lol "undomiciled" patients, young pregnant women wanting abortions, opioid overdoses, end of life conversations, caring for transgender patients are like a daily occurrence in busy inner city ERs. Literally had 3 of those situations/patients in my last shift.

And fas for hoping for a Benton cameo, just remember that this show was essentially written as a continuation of ER, just without the title or character names. "Benton" was Noah Wyle's mentor who died during COVID. Also, the "friend from Hawaii" that taught Noah the 4 phrase mantra when saying goodbye was a reference to Mark Greene.

And I agree about the show being a bit of a downer without a ton of emotional payoff, but I think part of that reason is that we are now only 5 hours into the shift, so most threads are not even close to being wrapped up.

I love the show so far (not a medical person). It's definitely grittier than ER and I really like the characters so far. I wonder how many times Whitaker (young white med student) is going to have to change his scrubs in this one shift. There's a lot of hours left to cover lol.

I agree that Dr. Mel King is also excellent and probably my favorite character so far. And while I have never worked in the medical field I have worked with plenty of people like Santos (the overconfident intern). Maybe that's what works for me. The personalities of the main characters seem to be pretty universal. Drop them into any other setting and you could see people just like them from your own career.
