As indicated in the previous thread, there are no seeds. All matchups are a blind draw.
Entries include:
  • Best Picture Winners
  • Box Office Champs
  • Highest ranked films on IMDB
There are a few subs based on duplicates / movies nobody cares about being replaced with several great comedies.
Deadpool & Wolverine and Wicked from 2024 are my personal picks to fill out the field of 128 entries.

The Departed vs Anchorman is tough. Both are great examples of their genre, but they are so different you can't really compare them. I feel like I'm in a glass case of emotion.

In voting, I realize again the impact of having kids for most of this time period.

There were some movies that I didn't know that well or hadn't seen. But all those kid movies, and all those cartoons, yep...seen it multiple times.

Green book is there twice.
I would also suggest removing th requirement to answer every one, there were a couple I hadn't seen one or both. Pretty much made up answers from me on those.

Sorry for the double ups. I'll figure something out once all the votes are cast. I doubt it will change much of anything.

some of the matchups were truly miserable to see come up on the random # generator and keep there, particularly Training Day vs. the Social Network for me.

A healthy 47 votes cast already. At this point there are none that are at 100%

I'm not going to remove the mandatory vote thing because that makes it too easy to miss a matchup or think you've voted but you really haven't. Even when I was testing it out, I missed several that I thought I had picked.

Within 2-3 rounds, it should be largely movies everyone has seen.

Since I somehow put Green Book vs. No way Home in there twice, and Green Book is getting doubly slaughtered, the next super hero movie up that didn't make the initial list - Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) will get a second-round replacement bye.

There's some big time movies that didn't make the list.
Not really complaining, but just some observations.

Finding Nemo
Black Hawk Down
Zombieland
Almost Famous
Gangs of New York
Minority Report
Boyhood
Drive
Dallas Buyers Club
Sicario
Captain Phillips
Lincoln
Zootopia
Thor Ragnorok
No Mission Impossible movies
No Fast and Furious movies
No Planet of the Apes movies

Was Boyhood not there? Didn't even notice, but that's one of my favorites of the 2000's. (Or whatever we call post-2000...)

OK, let's play the procrastination game a little until the Sugar Bowl

#1) Which movie currently has the highest percentage of votes (98 votes cast)?

#2 Tell me one of the three closest matchups right now. Two are 50-48 and a third is 49-49.

Hell and High Water vs Inglorious Basterds was my most difficult choice. Both are great. I picked inglorious because of the opening scene, but I went back and forth.

Wait, almost famous isn't There? Can we put that in over another super hero movie? It's better than at least half the movies on this list.

I think if more people had seen Hell or High Water it would go really far in this field. I never even heard about it until I saw it on Netflix. It was never in more than 1500 theaters and came out at an odd time of year.

The closest vote is actually

District 9 vs. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - separated by 1 vote right now.

Recasting The Departed with the Anchorman cast is a groupthink we need to do.

Ron Burgundy can be Damon's character

Paul Rudd as DiCaprio

Steve Carrell as Nicholson

Champ Kind as Marky Mark with a few WHAMMMMMYS
