So, finally saw the movie.
1) Good overall.
2) Drags a bit at first, probably because I know the story and was anticipating the reckoning early on.
3) Last 45-60 minutes is great.
4) Page was not bad in the role but was distracting because I spent the whole time wondering "is that an affectation or is that what the drugs do to your voice."
5) Helen not in the movie much....plus it was no surprise for me. The only difference is I got the eyeroll out of the way weeks ago.
6) Bronze age people referring to the Bronze Age is just dumb. How did that get through?
7) Anne Hathaway was stellar.
8) I hope Odysseus got one "for the road" from Calypso.
9) Tom Holland was much better than I expected.
10) Bone To Pick: Three dogs die in this movie. F*** you for that, Nolan.

Not even a chuckle. Literally my example I keep referencing is the movie looking like a community theater production.
I had typed up a 3 or 4 paragraph post after seeing the movie, but I lost it and too frustrated to come back and type again. But I will re-type my biggest complaint about forced social representation in the movie, which of course can only be due to neediness for awards consideration. I could not believe, both at Circe's and in Hades, that I saw two or more of Odysseus's crew were OVERWEIGHT. I'm all for body positivity, but with health positivity as the focus, but this was supposed to be an army that was coming off a 10 year war and constantly short on supplies, battling Gods along the way. You still got chubby guys in armor running around?? CMON NOLAN!

How gross is the pig scene ? Im used to watching horror movies but my wife is not.
It's not bloody or gory or anything, but it is relatively disturbing. I would say the sounds are gross, while the visuals are disturbing. It's like body horror without the blood and guts. But it's really impressively done, and the actual disturbing part is maybe only two minutes, if that?

Definitely more squeamish than gruesome. It's just kinda…gross…for like 2 minutes.
It's funny, I've got two conservative buddies of similar movie taste who gave me almost identical separate reviews. Both said it was incredible in normal IMAX and that I have to see it there while I can. Both unprompted said that the Elliot Page appearance was horrible and completely distracting, but luckily just short lived and didn't take away from the movie overall.
I guess CN is just a really good friend. As I said before, it's admirable, even if I think it's a horrible casting decision. I don't think he did it for "diversity points" or whatever. I really think he was just helping a friend who is struggling.

Think that scene twisted me up a bit based on how loud the volume was combined with the visuals. I definitely laughed at my wife covering her eyes up.

Think that scene twisted me up a bit based on how loud the volume was combined with the visuals. I definitely laughed at my wife covering her eyes up.
The film was very well done. Lots of good use of shadows, sounds, and music to build tension. I already knew the story so cautioned my wife that its just going to be one bad situation after the next. My favorite parts had to be the scenes with Polyphemus, the Laestrygonians , and hades though.
Not reading through 127 pages to see if this has been answered so I apologize in advance. Is the IMAX in Bryan acceptable to watch this movie? Or do I need to find a better IMAX theater in a bigger city?

The Bryan IMAX was specifically called out in Texas Monthly's rundown as one of the "at least seventy feet tall" digital IMAX screens worth seeking out when true 70mm isn't accessible. So it's not a consolation-prize theater, it's genuinely on the recommended list. The theatre shows it in the full tall aspect ratio just via laser/digital projection instead of physical film grain.

Finally saw it. I wanted to like it more, I just didn't. Still a solid 7/10, but definitely didn't meet expectations for me. I never felt engrossed and part of the ancient world CN painted. For me, it just wasn't very engaging and the commentary was so inconsistent. The language was too modern (and too boring) and confusingly so, because it didn't add value. That part I'm super confused on…it's not like younger audiences have trouble latching on to your average Game of Thrones episode. The overly modern language was a big negative IMO. For me, it was really distracting and made me continually aware that I was watching a movie, rather than being immersed in it and truly zoning out in an experience for 3 hours.
There were clearly some highs though. Some of the open water and storm scenes were insanely good. The Trojan horse scenes were great, and a pretty solid closing hour. The Cerce portion was great, uncomfortably great.
As far as acting, I agree with what others have said…Hathaway was superb, Tom Holland was a solid A, Damon was good and typical Damon….I just have Damon fatigue, especially here. For me, I'd have much rather seen a lesser known actor with a more engaging and compelling version of Odysseus. That alone would have helped draw viewers into this world much more IMO. The Page scenes were lol as expected. Pattinson was annoying, by design, so good in that regard I guess. No other actors were really relevant or present long enough to leave much of an impression. I wasn't annoyed by Leguizamo as others mentioned. Strange casting choice, but not as strange as others and he was fine.
I think that'll be a one and done for me unfortunately. I just think it left so much on the table, especially given the source material. Felt forced and honestly hollow in a lot of ways. 7/10

I really enjoyed the movie overall and didn't feel like it drug on forever (which I was expecting). There's a lot of material/stories that isn't covered in the movie and that's to be expected with any book to screen adaptation. So while I may not have made the same choices, I'm not going to fault Nolan for leaving some things out.

the dialogue was easily the worst part for me. I just don't understand the thinking there. Like if you're going to go that modern, just go all in and have people call each other man and bro, etc. It might be lazy, but it's tried and true -- just go with a Game of Thrones style dialogue (not Knight of the 7 Kingdoms)....and you'd get no complaints there. Instead, you get some mis-mashed writing that felt very out of place, but also strangely emotionless. It was just super frustrating. I haven't been that nit-picky on a film in a long time....and I don't want to be. I just feel forced to be with this movie.
For me....fix the dialogue, and break it into 2-3 films instead of trying to cram it all into 2 hours and 52 minutes. The source material warrants a multi-film series, or a tv series ideally. Give the characters some reason for us to take interest. None of the characters were given any depth or reason to root for or against them. I'll still keep my rating at 7/10, but I woke up this morning just frustrated with that movie...what could have been.
I felt like I adapted pretty quickly to the language, with only a couple of times being a little jarring (Holland saying mom and dad just felt off. Feel like a prince would definitely say mother and father even in modern times)

One man's perspective, but I think Tom Holland might be experiencing some Mark Hamill-itis. When your first breakout role is this huge iconic character and you're really popular in the role, it's hard to see you as anything else.
I could suspend disbelief with all of the other major characters from their public persona except for him. It's sort of a backhanded compliment; I think he's a a perfect Spidey / Peter Parker, but he just felt like Peter Parker the whole movie, especially being alone in scenes with high-level talent like Hathaway and Pattinson.
