Oh yeah….one other issue I have with this movie and why I can't say it's a 10/10. Without spoiling anything, whatever Nolan was attempting to do with Athena/Zendaya appeared to serve basically no purpose. Again, didn't ruin the movie at all, but I don't know what she was supposed to contribute to the story. She was unnecessary.

I have to disagree. You missed some pretty clear symbolism. Athena projected herself as the girl that was beheaded during sacking of Troy as a reminder to Odysseus of the horror of what they had done. Thus, his speech to Hathaway at end of movie. Or, you could also interpret it as Athena judging him / reminding him of his defiance of the Gods by breaking Zeus's law.

Now, whether or not that follows Homer's version, I do not recall.

You are overly dramatic.

I don't frequent this board, and even in my short time on here on this thread, you've been dramatic AF.

Chill out.

Don't take everything so personally. It's just a message board, and people are going to disagree with you.

I guess I said that wrong. I didn't miss it. I know what he was trying to do. It just didn't land for me. I could have done without it.

Someone makes it personal and now I'm "taking it too personally."

Got it.

It'd be interesting to see people talk **** at or about you on basically every other page in a thread like this and see how you handle it. I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to laugh at or ignore even the half that I do.

Look, here's where many of us right-wingers are coming from, and it's not really that right-wing.

It's like pro wrestling, where I agree with major left-winger Jim Cornette.

I WANT TO BELIEVE. HELP ME BELIEVE.

Don't take me out of it. Don't have Donald Trump walk on screen, smile, and extend his hand. Keep me in the world.

And if it's Kenya in 900 AD, I don't want Europeans around.

Just saw the movie and thought I'd share my opinions:

Overall, I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

I'm old, so I've become accustomed to British being the "universal" accent. So, it was weird to hear an American accented version of this movie. And hearing words like "Mom", "Dad", "F***", etc. used took me out of the movie.

I enjoy Matt Damon and Tom Holland movies, but THEY are the ones who shouldn't have been cast in The Odyssey. I had very little to no issues with the rest of the casting, including Lupita Nyong'o. She wasn't in the movie enough to matter to anyone but the obstinate. Same with Elliot Page. Meanwhile, Damon is great in the right role, but I don't think he has the gravitas to pull this one off. And all I heard when Tom Holland spoke was Spiderman.

For whatever reason, I didn't like how most of the scenes were flashbacks.

The ending was the strongest part for the movie and Damon, but the fight choreography could have been better.

Official Friday revenues are not in but the Friday projections are showing 51.2 million. And yes that includes Thursday so that's usually the largest day of an opening weekend but holy hell…this will definitely finish over 100 million domestically opening weekend…imma guess around 110 - 115 million.

What's curious is the international currently showing 21.8 million for Friday…I've read the things showing how IMAX theaters are booked out in some countries for over a month for this thing so I'm guessing it's either:

1. Many international box offices simply aren't reporting yet (most likely)
2. Same effect of having good legs and people waiting for IMAX screenings like what's happening here to an extent
3. Internationally this things in trouble….

We won't know until imma guess Tuesday or Wednesday for the overall international so way too early to draw any direct conclusions.

EDIT: Just checked a bit further…

Yeah, this suckers gonna crush it. If what I'm reading holds true this things going to do a tad over 250 million worldwide opening weekend. And once that's official you can mark it down for a billion even with Brand New Day coming out in a few weeks.

Love it or hate it…it's gonna happen.

It also turns out that sirens, giants, Greek gods and magic never existed.

Also, for the record, historically nobody from Anatolia, North Africa or southeastern Europe was regarded as "Caucasian". Nor could most of the white actors/actresses in this film be mistaken for being native to any of those regions, especially prior to the heavy interbreeding with central and Western European populations that occurred millennia after the time period in the story. If we pulled someone out of the Anatolian peninsula in 1000 BC nobody here would look and then and think "white guy".

If you follow a few tasty bread crumbs, it might be the case that someone got put in the corner for 24 hours and told if they don't have something nice to contribute, don't contribute at all.
Perhaps.

If you post a lot on this site, people are going to disagree with you, especially if you have strong opinions. I have people disagree with me all the time, when they start slinging insults, you just point out they lost the argument, and go on your way.

Your problem is you overreact to every disagreement.

The first two-thirds were… decent. Technically impressive on a massive scale, with three or four really high moments, while the Circe sequence was insane in the best way. I had zero notes, and there's nothing I'd change, but for the most part I wasn't super wowed either. It basically felt like another Dunkirk to me - obviously really good but not a story I was incredibly invested in, not top-tier Nolan either, etc.

Then?

The last forty-five or so minutes happened and I was suddenly in Nolan/blockbuster heaven. Because that was ****ing incredible, and up there with The Dark Knight and Interstellar in terms of all-timer Nolan third acts / endings. Resulting in a feeling I get in the theater only once every few years. I'm still on a high from that and don't know when I'm going to come down.

To that end, I totally get thinking the first two-thirds are so are just okay, and even being let down a bit here and there. But I legitimately don't understand not levitating after that third act. I can't comprehend being a fan of movies in general and not being moved / in awe of how it all plays out. I mean, our audience cheered/clapped THREE times during the final 20 minutes alone, and that was before they clapped when the credits finally came up. It was so amazing, and so damn fun.

Similarly, on no planet is this even a remotely bad movie. It may not be the version of The Odyssey you wanted to see, and I totally get that. I can also understand the non-linear nature of the narrative not being everyone's cup of tea. But if you can't appreciate the level of care and consideration put on screen in general, or how well so many third act beats landed / paid off earlier moments, I don't know what to tell you.

And the "woke" stuff? Good gosh it was nothing. Absolutely nothing. It was also weird seeing how ridiculously disingenuous/"curated" all those bootleg cam rip clips and stills were on social media, the ones that highlighted all the "bad"/"ridiculous" moments in the movie, when, in the movie itself, every single one of them was either blink-and-you-missed-it or played so naturally and not like a big deal at it in context. I wouldn't have even noticed them had they not been made to look dumb by a bunch of lame ass grifters. Hell, I was even fully prepared to not like Page's performance, but IMO, even it was totally fine and dare I say appropriate for the character.

But whatever. Audiences have now spoken and they not only clearly weren't affected by any of that stuff either, they're absolutely loving the movie, and deservedly so.

Now if I can just find an empty IMAX seat to see it again in the next week or two. Knowing how incredibly it ends, I want to go back and see how the first two-thirds plays on second watch.

Dude, I don't know how many times I have to say it's not about people disagreeing with me. I've made this point countless times in this thread (and in many other threads). Rather, it's about the volume and overbearingly negative nature in which people express their disagreements. I'm not here having temper tantrums because the board doesn't think exactly like I do. I'm simply sick and tried of the *way* a certain sect chooses to air their culture way grievances in never-ending fashion all over this board. I feel like a broken record at this point, either due to you guys not being able to read or someone like you showing up out of the woodwork to take your little shots. Especially when you're not saying anything remotely new, that hasn't already been discussed/addressed ad nauseam here.

If you're okay with people disagreeing, then why do you overreact so often? Why are you so dramatic?

Why is it a personal affront to you if someone says this movie is woke? You didn't direct it, you didn't produce it, so why do you personalize it?

TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good lord, give it up.

The Letterboxd score is 4.3 OUT OF 5, genius.

While it's been well established that the Metacritic user system is way more lax than all the others, thus far more easily manipulated by the haters.

Also, an 8.3 IMDb user score is GOOD, and not that far off from a 97% RT audience score, considering they use completely different formulas.

Again, we've been over all of this.

There is no conspiracy, and the box office numbers unequivocally prove that word of mouth is through the roof.

I've seriously never seen a group so desperately in denial like this. It's wild.

I'm not having this conversation again, for the 400th time. You are so incredibly late to the party, and so clearly here to be nothing more than a heel, that it's not even worth it anymore. Have a great rest of your night.

"Permanently torched its credibility" lol I don't know about metacritic but Letterboxd is on a scale of 1-5. Other universally beloved titles at or around that 4.3 score:

2001: A Space Odyssey - 4.2
T2 - 4.3
Project Hail Mary - 4.3
Inglorious *******s - 4.4
Grand Budapest - 4.2
Heat - 4.3
Gladiator - 4.2
Interstellar - 4.4
Two Towers - 4.4

So 4.3/5 is pretty damn good
