I honestly expect to like certain aspects of it. I've been comparing it to Napoleon and I think I'll have the same level of appreciation and frustration. When a genuinely great director makes a lackluster movie, on a massive budget, it's more disappointing. I am expecting to find certain parts cool but just wish he had done something different with it. That's where the last couple of trailers have left me.
Yikes. This is pretty much exactly what I expected from this movie though. Nolan lost his edge after Inception in my view, with the semi-exception of Interstellar, which was mostly good.Cliff.Booth said:Film Threat's Chris Gore and Alan Ng out of the theater reaction for The Odyssey.

Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Inception, etc.….his movies, while always thoughtful, used to hit hard and have a great payoff. But lately they're either self-Indulgent or just feel like he's trying to force something that doesn't work. I'll keep watching the reviews, but probably won't see this in the theater.

Serious question for TCTTS and Veryfuller:
Do you at least laugh and roll your eyes at the juxtaposition in the two variety articles about Moana and The Odyssey. Or do you look at those two articles and agree with both?

Meh... those two are fairly negative about most things. Not really a fan of their taste in movies.

The juxtaposition of those Variety articles is ridiculous, hypocritical, laughable, etc.
I can't stand that kind of **** either.
Again, it's HOW MUCH y'all complain about that kind of ****, and bring to so many of these threads, that gets on our nerves. It's just relentless, and is often WAY out of proportion to how much it impacts any given movie, before you've waited to see the movie for yourselves. Not to mention, in the process, y'all are often just as preachy/lecturing/virtue signaling in these threads as y'all endlessly complain about the movies themselves being.

Beyond all of the online nonsense and disingenuous discourse, THE ODYSSEY is a terrific “dad movie.” No matter what format you choose, the best way to watch is standing with your arms crossed several feet away from the screen.

Yes, you've called out this ONE MOVIE... except you've done so about 400 TIMES in this thread.
That's objectively *more* than your "very simple" scenario.
Endlessly complaining about the same ******* thing over and over and over again, without having seen the movie for yourself, is the problem. Especially when it inevitably turned out, as many of us predicted, that the "woke" aspects make up less than 5% of the final product.

Nope.
I'm generally responding to someone else when I post. This is why you get called out for playing forum police. Why does it bother you so much if someone says one little thing about a movie? It's their opinion. There's nothing egregious about simply stating an opinion.
Because it's never "one with little thing." Ever. Yes, it's their opinion, but when their opinions are political/culture war in nature, they ALWAYS DOMINATE these threads. The "woke" casting of two characters who are in the movie for 5% of the runtime has, objectively, DOMINATED this thread. That is indisputable.
And you ALSO haven't seen the film. You don't know to what extent it is woke. Neither do I. But there are at least two casting choices that are.
Wrong. We now know for a fact that Lupita Nyong'o and Elliot Page are in the movie for less than 10 minutes each. There are zero other reports of anything else being "woke" in this movie.
Calling it out for what it is bothers you so much that you have to go on a crusade against anyone who calls it out. Just don't respond and there is no back and forth. It dies right there.
Wrong again. There have been multiple times when I went a day or two without commenting in this thread, only to come back to 50+ or 100+ new replies, with the vast majority of that discourse being about the "woke" nature of the movie.
For example: I asked a simple question about the Variety thing. That's it. I was genuinely curious as to yall's take on that to gauge if you actually had the capacity to see the total hypocrisy. You could have just answered me. But instead of doing that, you proceeded to engage me in more debate. You just get off on it. I don't know why you act like you hate people calling out woke stuff. Without that, you wouldn't get to go back and forth with your favorite posters.
You may not notice this, but I don't actually interject that much.
The is laughably inaccurate.
But even if I did, it would be about the movie.
I *will* give you this - you at least do particulate in other discussions on this board. Don't get me wrong, you complain about "woke" as much and as passionately anyone else here, but you at least engage in "normal" movie/TV discussion as well, unlike others.
Why do you get to dictate the subjects within the movie that can be discussed?
I'm not dictating anything, nor am I deciding the subjects being discussed. I have zero power in that regard. I'm simply complaining about the sheer VOLUME of thread-derailing, culture war bull**** on this board.
I didn't cast a black woman as Helen of Troy and I didn't cast a woman to play a man. I simply called out both castings as stupid. That's me discussing the movie, just not in a way that you like.
Totally fine. That's absolutely your prerogative. Again, it's HOW MUCH that discussion has dominated this thread (and many, many others) that's absurd, especially now that we have confirmation they're both minuscule roles.

Fantastic for people within a reasonable radius of those 40 cinemas, but really ****ty for the rest of us.

In total, there are actually 90 THEATERS globally (40 70mm projectors, 50 laser dual-projectors) that ALL show the movie in full, 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio.

They are just trying to get people to click their content to have traffic and make money. I don't really care about articles like that at all. And they did their job, because that's been reposted or linked to all over the internet now.
So much of what's on the internet is just trying to rage bait us all and I just can't do it anymore. Apathy is my feeling with those types of things.
