I decided I'm looking at this movie like Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. It's a European myth starting mostly American actors speaking with an American accent. It's only going to be partially accurate to the source material. If it's entertaining, though, I don't care. I don't need this to be a historically accurate movie. Just an entertaining one.

So in other words, he ruined the movie.

Please go see the context of these comments. He was talking about the dialogue and how we can sometimes hold the past in a higher regard, but he wanted the language to be more common and grounded and not hold these cultural prejudices (not meant negatively) and have too high a view of the past.

He doesn't care. Literally all he's done is post lies and misinformation for days now without any qualms or redactions whatsoever. The more rave reviews that come in, and the more the movie looks like it's going to be a home run financially, the more desperately these guys are to grasp at straws and twist the truth in order to try and win their all-consuming culture war.

Wait til normal people can review and the second and third weeks of release roll around. Might have to settle for a base hit if your homerun doesn't materialize.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is obviously going to take screens/box office away from The Odyssey on its third weekend and beyond. But The Odyssey has IMAX screens exclusively for four weeks, through August 13th, which will obviously help. Either way, The End of Oak Street (August 14th) is the only other real competition until mid September or so, and even then the rest of the competition doesn't really start stacking up until October.

I know you're counting on "normal people" rejecting this movie for some reason, but even if it's 75% as good as initial reactions suggest, it's going to be making money for months, just like Oppenheimer did.

She can be whatever the maker of the movie wants her to be, but if I was making it, she would look like someone from the Mediterranean world. Mainly, she would be a 10/10 and not mid.

I'm not sure, Oppenheimer benefited greatly from the whole Barbenheimer marketing gimmick, and word of mouth from normies was fairly strong. It is yet to be seen what genuine reactions to the movie will be. I wouldn't be terribly surprised either way, but if I had to guess I'd say it'll be a modest success but not a juggernaut and will receive mixed reviews.

Barbenheimer helped boost Oppenheimer's first couple of weekends or so, but the rest of its massive run was due, yes, to phenomenal word of mouth. Also, Barbenheimer took Oppenheimer from an average opening weekend to an $82M opening weekend, which no one was expecting for an action-less, R-rated biography (it was only tracking to do $50M or so). It's not like it boosted it to a $100M+ opening weekend, which The Odyssey could potentially do.

On that note, I've heard it had a production budget of $250 million. I think a conservative marketing budget would be $125 mill. Combine those two to get $375 mill, then obviously the theaters get ~ half of the haul, and this thing needs to make roughly $750 million to break even. Sound about right?

You gotta assume the studio is expecting/hoping for it to reach $1 billion. But realistically - what's a "success"? And what's "failure" for this thing, financially speaking?

Yeah, I think Odyssey will have a strong opening. Most of the people going are more interested in seeing a Nolan IMAX flick than they are in seeing his Odyssey. I could be wrong and the general vibe will be that it is awesome and it'll have legs for a while, but based on everything Ive seen over the last couple weeks leading up to release, guessing not. We shall see.

Aside from fitting the characteristics that logically fit the character, no one will question that she fits the most important thing that defines her role. No one would dispute she is the most beautiful woman in that world that creates that entire conflict. Unlike the 90+% who dispute the current selection. Even so, a majority of that 10% difference probably says they think she is attractive because they feel they have to. Especially when aggressively defending literally anything about this and other films with points of contention he feels threatened by. It's taken personally, which is why any disagreement is met with such blind and fanatical dedication to the industry.

I truly hope it's good. This has been a dog**** movie summer, so we need something worth seeing. Sales may actually benefit from that. It will definitely be a visual spectacle. I just have a sneaking feeling it will be overthought and a bit of a weird fit with Damon (among other choices), but we'll see. Sometimes these massively successful guys start huffing their own farts too long and others are too intimidated to approach them with good advice; I think Tenet was a product of that. No one went "hey, I mean, if we are going to make this very confusing time-twisting movie, maybe we shouldn't have the main character mumble his way through the entire thing"
