What is a movie that you feel like had a great idea but the execution missed the mark?

I'll start with.

This kind of premise is right up my alley. Future/Scifi etc but it just missed the mark IMO. What you got?

Matt Damon's Downsizing movie. Great concept but really fell flat.

Points deducted for not going with the obvious "...but came up short."

Passengers is a great one. They could have done so much cool stuff with that.

Halloween Ends

The idea of a new killer isn't a bad one, but it's not something you throw into the last movie of a trilogy with zero work put in to establish or develop that character.

He should've been introduced in Halloween 2018, been the main killer in Halloween Kills, and then go back to Michael for Ends.

Also Laurie's arc is literally backwards of what it should've been. She should have been the happy homemaker BEFORE her daughter was murdered by Michael, not after. It makes literally no sense for her to be a gun-toting badass while Michael is imprisoned, then stop caring about him after he kills her daughter and disappears.

You swap the order of Kills and Ends with some tweaks and you have a damn good trilogy instead of a mediocre one at best.

Lots of SciFi and Fantasy books that were made into bad movies belong on this list

Eragon and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen top the list for me off the top of my head.

Queen of the Damned movie. The whole book series is fantastic, and I especially enjoyed that book in particular. Was very excited for the movie to come out, but was a huge letdown, didn't capture the same vibe as Interview with a Vampire and generally a bad movie.

When they tried to bring Arrested Development back. Also, the Motley Crue movie. I was a massive Motley Crue fan as a teen in the 80's and was really excited when I heard the movie was coming out and then I saw it and thought it was very meh.

The bolded letter is the first problem with those movies. That should have been one movie.

I think the Acolyte basically wins this thread.

On paper not a bad concept, but executed in the absolute worst way possible.

I loved World War Z, the book.

World War Z the movie? I really liked. It's a fun sorta suspenseful unique movie. Other than a zombie outbreak there's not much in common with them.

The 1989 Batman. I saw it opening night thinking I was gonna get Batman Begins, but I got basically the original Adam West TV show with less lighting. Tim Burton pissed me off so much, that I still have never seen Batman Returns. The clip I saw with a bunch of penguins confirms that was the right decision.

The original Batman may very well have had some flaws, but it was nothing like the TV show. No campiness like the TV show. The penguins thing you mentioned in Batman Returns was the moment I checked out. The Joel Schumacher third and fourth movies were very much like the TV show.
