I recently finished the Netflix seasons. They're no where near as good as the first two but they have their moments. It's amazing how good it was right out of the gate.

It's not easy to work "what are you doing with mother's rape horn?" into your day to day conversations, but I try.

Any time I hear the final countdown I think of this show.

And my personal favorite homage to Fonz
The fact Ron Howard then got Scott Baio, who basically had been retired since Charles in Charge to come in as Bob Loblaw is so fantastic. I don't remember the episode, but he tells the Bluths "This isn't the first time I've been brought in to replace Barry Zuckerkorn. I can do everything he did plus skew younger with juries & so forth" - a great reference to Chachi becoming the eye candy for the ladies on Happy Days Again once Fonz was too old for that.

I also think Ron Howard's narration of the show might be the best part of it. I might have more of his lines stuck in my head than any individual character.
-GOB was intrigued. He also suspected he couldn't return a completely frozen dove to a pet store and get the full refund he felt he was entitled to.
-As a child, Buster had a pet parakeet who, after landing on their housekeeper Rosa's wig, flew away when she took out the trash, and into a transformer. When Buster found out, he destroyed the family's kitchen believing this to be where Rosa lived.
-As it turns out, she had gotten up early and had taken pain medication because of a hangover-related headache. However, she mistook the drowsy-eye alcohol warning for a winking-eye alcohol suggestion.
-Jessie had gone too far, and she had best watch her mouth.
-No one was making fun of Andy Griffith. I can't emphasize that enough.
-Due to poor acting, the burden of the story was placed on the narrator.
-Gene was far from the best.

The thing that made this show so great was that it was irreverent, subversive, clever, even downright weird sometimes, but it was rarely mean. The joke was always the absurdity of it all. Which is what made it fun, it was almost always a belly laugh and not a snicker.
When Conan O"Brien was on Smartless once, Bateman said from the very first scene, they all followed Jeffrey Tambor's lead that they were all playing their roles straight - nobody was out there hamming it up, looking at the camera, etc.
