Got to use JAFO in a Teams meeting at work a few weeks ago. It's a handy bit of jargon in the right context.

So how long will this thread go? 3 years of speculation, 100 pages?

So io9 is saying they've heard Nolan's next might actually be... a 1920s-set vampire movie.

This, in addition to...

- Nosferatu releasing Christmas Day.

- Ryan Coogler's Sinners - a 1930s vampire movie - releasing in March.

If true, IMO, it actually sounds somewhat uninspired/repetitive on the surface, but this obviously being Nolan, it'll no doubt still be unique/awesome.

We shall see...

Ha, I say yeah, this stays the "official" speculation thread until we finally have confirmation of what the movie actually is. At which point I'll start a new thread, free of the Blue Thunder title and speculation that followed, assuming it ends up being something else. With filming set to begin in the first quarter of next year, we'll almost assuredly have an answer before then, so I'd say roughly three months instead of three years...

Period horror, like horror in the 1940s, or period horror like a really bad b-movie about menstruation?

Or the third option, a lack of period leading to horror

A movie about a vampire that stalks menstruating women would have to be made by the director of Tucker and Dale vs Evil right?

I was going to say, if you're married, you've been living through period horror for a long time.

I've actually never seen Blue Thunder, and on one hand "futuristic helicopter" sounds so incredibly cheesy/'80s to me - instead, why wouldn't a modern take focus on some kind of new, gravity-defying propulsion - but if anyone can pull it off and make it badass, thrilling, and emotional, on a giant IMAX screen, it's obviously Nolan.

Anyway, we'll see how this one pans out, and no matter what it ends up being, my butt will no doubt be in the theater come July 17, 2026.

I honestly find the thought adorable in the best way. The idea that we have possibly one of the best directors of his generation, who's grossed over $6 billion with his films, wanting to do a remake of an okay-ish at best early 80s TV show is hilarious to me, and humanizes him quite a bit. It'd be like Scorsese taking a break to turn the 1970s show Emergency! into a film.
It's Blue Thunder, not Airwolf. Airwolf was the TV show.
There was a Blue Thunder tv show too. It sucked and didn't last long. I remember it b/c Hightower from Police Academy was in it along with Dick Butkus.

Starring Dana Carvey. Yes, you read that correctly.

The best part of the Blue thunder era of TV was that once ABC had a cool helicopter show, CBS was like, ok we will get our own helicopter- airwolf - and NBC said ok we got a talking super car - knight rider, a super motorcycle - street hawk, a show about a dude that turns into animals - manimal.

Airwolf was a fantastic show, and Knight Rider had Hasselhoff. The others I don't even remember, including the TV version of Blue Thunder.

Manimal didn't even make it half a year, but if you were a kid in the 80s, why WOULDNT' you watch a show caled Manimal?

I also question people who were alive then and didn't watch The Misfits of Science.

The guy who played the Predator, Dean Martin's son, Courtney Cox and Alf's adoptive father Willie Tanner all fighting bad guys with their mutant powers. Must-see TV!

I was three when Blue Thunder came out. But after that I watched a lot of cable growing up and don't remember seeing it once on HBO/Showtime/Cinemax/TNT/etc, nor do I recall ever seeing the VHS on the racks in the countless times my friends, family, and I rented movies.

Production Weekly can be hit or miss, but chalk another rumor up in the Blue Thunder column…
