Was just talking about this with a friend of mine. It's interesting how every list I've seen has a different #1.

For me, there's only one right answer for the best episode. It's an episode that is all killer, no filler. Literally the entire runtime is filled with clever jokes and widely known moments.

But I'm curious what other people think.

Will refrain from saying it yet as I wonder if others feel the same as me.

Das Bus, Season 9, ep 15. It's the one referencing Lord of the Flies, where Bart rules the wild kid tribe.

That's just the first one to come to mind. There are several greats in the first 8 seasons. Mr Plow is also great.

Marge vs. the Monorail

I live in Seattle. We have a monorail. I think of this episode every time I see it and smile.

Might be a bit biased since baseball playoffs are starting, but it's hard to argue with "Homer at the Bat".

I think there are too many perfect episodes to name one as the best ever, but I do think the rake bit might be their funniest joke ever.

Nothing more iconic than this one IMO:

"Nothing at all.... Nothing at All.... Nothing At ALL!"

I still use "stupid sexy" on a very regular basis

Radio Bart where he puts the radio in the well and pretends to be a little boy who fell down inside it.

I'm with you. I don't think I could name a single episode as the best one, there are so many incredible ones. I'll go with one that hasn't been said yet, Mr Plow.

I couldn't boil this down to 1 or even 50... but, I really love the first Christmas one (Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire).

My second favorite is "Homer's Enemy." The episode in which Homer has to train new employee Frank Grimes.

I know this one will not be at the top but it's one of my favs.

The one where Homer takes the giant submarine sandwich home and gets food poisoning.

"3 more feet and it will fit in the fridge"

"How can I be mad at you" talking to the sandwich

"Duff Gardens hoorah" and he passes out

And Bart saying he would go with Satan himself talking about his Aunts. And they respond, "That's the spirit!"

So many great lines in this one.

Flaming Mos is great!

Don't remember the episode but the scene where he lights his HS diploma on fire always cracks me up.

Homer used to be my favorite character of all time. Done so well.

Recently I have been watching the more recent episodes. They are surprisingly good. Not instant classic good and you can tell the jokes were written by younger writers, but they are better than I remembered when I gave up on the series.

My dad, brother and I can have full conversations and explain almost anything using M*A*S*H references. The other day a coworker and I realized the next generation of that is The Simpsons. I can't do any work on any vehicle without hollering PUT IT IN H!! And every year when we do insurance enrollment I think dental plan, Lisa needs braces.

I'll add The City of New York vs Homer Simpson.
