I don't believe there's a songwriter in history who had a more of an impact on the approach to songwriting in Nashville. He is still spoken of with awe and reverence by those of who are old enough to understand his overwhelming influence. A tremendous loss.

Don't know. My knowledge of classic country from this era is mostly limited to memories of riding along with my dad in the car. Maybe you are thinking of Johnny Cash's version?

Great question. I don't guess I've ever read a biography (maybe in school but I don't think so) but would read one on him. What a life!
