I can listen to almost any band/music out there, but I skip every REM song and I always will.

I don't understand why either of them are popular. Especially Prince.

Just, nope.

Am I the only one who was confused by the OP? I was probably more surprised that Boston was resonant enough to have a 'hot take' on than I was that somebody doesn't like Boston.
It's been such a long time. It's been such a looooooooonggg tiiiiiiime (since Boston has been relevant)?

Easily most overrated guitar solo of all time. I like Prince. Prince is an amazing songwriter, a great musician, and a very good guitar player. This solo is just not that great.
Can you break down the flaws for those of us who clearly don't understand what makes a good guitar solo?Professor Frick said:The Porkchop Express said:Because when he wasn't being a musical genius, he was casually the most freakishly talented guitar player of his generation.abileneag09 said:

You can't have a music thread without the professor hating on John Frusciante.

LOL. Ummm professional musicians would disagree with you including Petty, Lynn and others who were there and have talked about it. I'll take their opinions over yours. His Purple Rain solo at the super bowl was another amazing performance. And he shredded it in every concert.Professor Frick said:The Porkchop Express said:Because when he wasn't being a musical genius, he was casually the most freakishly talented guitar player of his generation.abileneag09 said:

And as far as well known riffs there are hardly many more well known that Purple Rain or When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy.

The problem with Prince is that he was more of a live guitarist that rarely showcased his guitar playing abilities in studio. Add to the fact that he basically blocked any kind of live recording, he became somewhat mystified. Everyone told you that he was great, but you just had to take them for their word unless you saw him live.

Hardly?
Yes those are well known, and I get that you're clearly a Prince fan, but your tendency towards this type of hyperbole is hard to take seriously.
You can't honestly be saying there's hardly more iconic riffs than Purple Rain.

It always amazes me how much hate Bruce gets here. Maybe it's an age thing, in his time he was the perfect blend of the older folk and emerging rock traditions. And he grew as he went, which is rare.
I'm a big Springsteen fan, but I get it. You get assaulted with some of his hits every 5 minutes on the radio that either really aren't that good (Hungry Heart) or were good in a gimmicky way but now just are so overplayed (Glory Days) and you don't hear a lot of the older stuff that really defined his sound like Racing In the Street.
Then post Tunnel of Love he becomes a bit of a mumble-fest (though Pearl Jam still gets high praise everywhere and you can rarely understand anything Vedder sings) and puts out a lot of somewhat "concept" albums that stray from what he's done before but still have some great content. Human Touch and Lucky Town aren't great (or even good) albums, but they've got some great songs. Ghost of Tom Joad and Seeger Sessions very niche. The Rising was basically a 9/11 tribute album.
He really leaned back into his sound with Magic and criminally underrated Wrecking Ball (an album that still applies perfectly to the world today). But post Wrecking Ball (meaning the last decade +), most of his stuff has been pretty mediocre.

I read this with Patrick Bateman's voice in my head.

Bruce is my absolute favorite artist of all time so I don't really get how people hate his music but clearly he touches a nerve for some people.Proposition Joe said:oragator said:
