Yes full of Texas trope, but I did not dislike it. Most Taylor Sheridan series do let me down at some point. And Billy Bob carries the whole thing. He deserves an Emmy for his expression at 39:05 alone.

Just started watching this. Does anyone know if this is supposed to be set in the modern day, or is it recent history? it seems the West Texas/Eagle Ford fracking was at its peak 10-15 years ago.

edit - Modern day, references to COVID. While I'm sure someone will correct me, it looks to me they are portraying stuff that primarily happened 2010-2015 or so.

I thought the first two episodes were pretty good.

Some of the dialog was a little ham-handed ... like the multiple references to 24-hour schedules from workers, waitresses and DJs -- we get it ... "there ain't no lunch in the patch" -- but overall, it's setting up to be interesting.

when the crew goes out to work on the pumpjack, why weren't they using a brass hammer? Brass hammers don't create sparks.

Something I noticed in the first seen that bothered me through the rest of episode 1: BBTs truck didn't have a cell booster on it and I didn't see one on any truck for the rest of the episode.

Anyone that drives west of Abilene will notice that 90% of the trucks out there have one mounted to their headache rack.

When he's sitting on the tailgate after the accident you can see the antenna for one.

I figured this would be a typical over the top Taylor Sheridan portrayal. It was, but it wasn't too bad. Watched the first episode and will watch the second tonight. Curious to see where this all goes.

Sheridan makes shows that red state/flyover America loves and blue state/coastals are perplexed with. But they watch too.

Enjoyed it..I'm in. BBT does a pretty good Texan. That 17 year old daughter sure has no issues talking about her sexual exploits with daddy, yikes. Lots of Tech references being in West Texas. Sheridan grew up in Ft. Worth so the TCU scenes make sense. Wonder if any Ags show up?

Can someone who has worked in the oil fields explain why they were using a metal hammer on a metal wrench vs a rubber mallet? To me that seems like a "duh" kind of thing especially when working around natural gas

The pinky scene in the hospital was a nice touch. My dad did the same thing with his thumb when it got caught between two pieces on metal on a plow, pre-cell phone era.
