I'm struggling though episode 2 right now. Super corny, tons of over the top stereotypes, obvious fake accents, etc. Trying way too hard to be "Texas". The writing is bad and the acting is worse.

There's no obvious fake accent on this show that comes close to Teeter on Yellowstone.

When they are at the carnival and she wants to win a stuffed "bar".

Literally no person alive says bear as "bar".

I've heard it said while working in West Virginia. Unlike popular belief, there are multiple variants of the Southern accent, not just one. But I digress, I've never heard it pronounced as "bar" in Texas, or even outside of Appalachia.

I know this show is corny and exaggerated, but I love it so far. Embrace the cheese. As an F16 regular, I love the mini sermons about how the whole modern world depends upon oil & gas extraction and doing away with them is nothing more than a hippie's pipe dream. Maybe this will wake up some of the more ignorant audience members who've had too much exposure to AOC type propaganda.

Same here. Good to see Demi Moore actually get some cameo and a speaking scene finally

As a Texan who no longer resides in the state I'm eating this show up. That might be why, it's preying on my emotions as someone who misses living there. I never lived out in West Texas but I've been out that way from time to time. This is kind of an antithesis from Yellowstone in one regard, feels like Yellowstone has a romantic idea of what it is to be a rancher in Montana. There's nothing romantic about how Landman portrays Texas, but it makes me miss living there. I watched episode 6 over lunch, and it's still over the top and ridiculous, but I'm enjoying the ride.

There's still time for them to go to Herb Graham's place north of Odessa.

Feel the same way. I was born in Odessa, but don't remember it. My mom grew up in Midland and my granddad was in oil. My wife and I lived in Lubbock for a year. I live in Georgia now due to my career and Landman gives me a Texas fix.

My wife and I started watching it Tuesday and finished episode 6 this afternoon. We both really enjoy it, but she absolutely can't stand the ex-wife. It's a constant stream of "I hate her. She's so shallow". I remind her that the point of the role is for her to be hated. BBT has some great retorts to nearly everything said to him, and I too love the pro-oil stance taken by the show.

I'm just gonna say, I'm not ENTIRELY sure that she's acting...

For the most part, I'm fine with the over the top, drastic happenings in every episode. Yellowstone got me used to it. I'm fine with the corny dialogue ect because the good acting still sells it.

This past episode, I just can't get over the stupidity of the crew beating up his son to within an inch of his life. They know he's the GM's son and not just the 2 dudes that hate him are in on it but they pull in more crew that also work under Norris who are happy to curb stomp their bosses son, then just go about their work day like nothing happened, and still hang around in their trailer the next day.

It would be so easy to fix how stupid the plotline was just with something simple like them roughing him up and making threats then the one guy takes it too far and the others have to stop him or something like that. That they all are employees who desperately need the job and were willing to just about kill the boss's son is just unbelievable. Even in a Sheridan universe.

Guess you have never been around a Mexican when they really lose it. They pretty much have an out of body experience when this takes place and no rational thinking occurs. Tunnel vision only focused on who they are going loco on. I have seen it a couple of times back in the day. The only thing not real was Coop living.
Texaggie7nine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
As I said, I can see how the 1 or the 2 guys he fought might get out of control, but dudes from another crew all together all were just fine basically beating the son of the GM to death? Didn't think to maybe kill him and hide his body or something so they wouldn't get caught? Just leave him for dead in the trailer in a camp that has security cams all around? Then just hang around their trailer not expecting anything bad to happen to them?

All it would take is for the one guy to go too far and the other guys like "hey man chill" and it is 100X more believable.

Did you miss the part where a I said they are loco?

"Hey man, chill" would not have done anything. None of his buds was going to stop anything. Pretty much a gang mentality.

You ever been around a chic when they are losing it. And been dumb enough to state, "calm down".

I was dumb enough to do that once. Never again.

If so, now escalate that reaction by 10 for this votto

People in the oil business watching Landman need to keep in mind the Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect when watching his other shows.

Quote:

Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.

In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.

We are talking about an industry that is full of ex convicts, many of whom are fueled on meth to stay awake long hours & have someone designated to take drug tests in the off chance that they become necessary.

We aren't talking about a lot reason & well thought out conclusions.

This. It's not worth putting a lot of thought into the decisions of oil field trash.
