It's either right before it or right after it. The Butlerian Jihad was always claimed "over 10,000 " years ago. Which is what got rid of AI.

I can appreciate this point of view. The novel God Emperor of Dune is out there for sure but Frank Herbert does very well with this book in my opinion. Herbert really pigeonholed himself with the first three Dune novels since he created an all powerful super-being. Not a whole lot of places to go with Paul Atreides unless it was the Kwisatz Haderach ripping into a multiverse or something which is the overdone trope all the rage with film studios today.Brian Earl Spilner said:

In terms of political systems, there are only so many ways to govern. Plus it is highly plausible that other systems of governments popped up here & there in the intervening years 10K years between this show & the events of Dune.
