Actually, now I'm starting to wonder if the next movie could somehow be both? Considering Covenant takes place only 38 years prior to Romulus, and David doesn't age...

This. Do both.

Either/or, both. This is one of very few franchises that I am truly invested in that hasn't been done to death or tarnished by ****-tier entries.

I have to process this a bit more, but I think I loved/liked just about every aspect of this movie.

It was one of the more intense movie experiences I've had in a long time.

I've slept on it now a couple of nights. I will certainly agree with the intensity. For me it was not so much the imagery, which was not something we'd never seen before in previous Alien films, but it was the sound. I saw it on the AMC Dolby screen, which has a sound system that I've always described as the "butt rumbler". The sound design in Alien Romulus rivals that in the original movie, although for different reasons.

In Alien, the sound was far more subtle. If you listen closely when Harry Dean Stanton is looking for the cat, you can hear not-mechanical sounds. There is also a "heart beat" sound that I believe represented the Nostromo. In Alien Romulus, the sound was loud, more akin to Aliens, and drove the movie's intensity IMO.

But given my disdain for Alien Resurrection, I really don't like the similarity to that film's final act and this one's. It was certainly well-done and it did have some good suspense (maybe not the right word here, but it's early on a Sunday morning and I need some caffeine).

Man, to this day I don't get why people were so let down by Prometheus and Covenant. Seemed like excellent prequels, to me. I'd think both deserved to be at least 10%-15% higher.

I feel like it's been pretty well explained in this thread the past few days. While both movies look incredible, feature some amazing concepts & cool sequences, and David is one of the best villains in modern sci-fi, the human characters make so many unforgivably asinine decisions that it's hard to look past their stupidly. That, and they're not really likeable characters either. Save for Idris Elba's character and his two right-hand men, personally, I can't stand just about every other human character in Prometheus. The characters are at least a bit more likable in Covenant, and make fewer stupid decisions, which is one of the reasons I like that movie more.

I get that, but I don't think it should put either of the movies into the 60%-70% range. I think they were just too much of a departure from what average fans expect from an Aliens movie. Very philosophical. I liked that about them.

I have tried to edit my post a few times to make it turn black with no luck. Is there a specific way to get it done on here bc the different ways I looked up online have not worked.

Use the open bracket character followed by sp and then closed bracket, then at the end of whatever you're writing, do it again but with a forward slash and sp. It's the same for all codes they use on here. Like using i instead of sp will make italics.

As far as my ranking of the movies.

I l actually like the first 3 in that order. All the others have some positives and negatives. Resurrection was pretty bad. I was hoping Prometheus was going to be a top one but it was just weird in the end and many characters were bad. Romelus and the predator one in Anartica are fun flicks.

Agree. Alien 3 should be no worse than 5 or 6.

You're probably right about that. And for the record, I absolutely love the philosophical elements as well. I just wish they weren't constantly undercut by some of the dumbest characters ever.

Yeah, that's true, especially considering that they were meant to have been a crew hand-picked for such a vital mission. I always assumed the crew were written in such a lowly way to contrast with David's ultra-logical and superhuman intelligence, to highlight that he was built to serve beings he develops a condescension and loathing for.

In Prometheus, the scene of the engineer and the waterfall. What was the reasoning for that one?
Cliff.Booth

It seemed to hint at the Engineers' custom of seeding other planets with the generic material to create intelligent lifeforms.

writer: So then Andy and Rain have to float in zero gravity through a hallway filled with million of droplets of xeno acid blood.

Producer: That sounds like it will be nearly impossible!

Writer: Actually it's going to be super easy, barely an inconvenience.
I was impressed by the rigging. Thought Diz Sharpe may have done it but it looks like locals did the stunt support.
