Got tickets for the wife and I this Saturday morning at the Star Cinema Grill in Richmond. Onyx auditorium in the pod seats. Same screen we saw Oppenheimer on, but didn't feel like that movie was a good choice for that viewing environment. This one should be a better choice.

In preparation for next weekend, I just watched the new 4K transfer of Twister and I cannot recommend it enough. Save, of course, for a few ify, '90s CGI shots here and there, it looks - and sounds - absolutely incredible. It's seriously one of the best 4K transfers of a '90s film I've ever seen.

As for the movie itself, on one hand I forgot how simple/straightforward it is, and yes, it obviously has its fair share of ridiculousness sprinkled throughout. But man, it's also so damn fun, the cast is incredible, I love the setting/set pieces so much, and purely in terms of pulpy, '90s screenwriting, I actually think it's kind of brilliant.

Anyway, the 4K version dropped this past Tuesday, is available to rent/buy on all digital platforms, and of course on physical 4K UHD as well. Definitely seek it out if you get the chance.

I hope the supporting cast is just as enjoyable as they were in Twister.

That's a high bar to set, unfortunately, so I'm not counting on it. Based on reactions so far, I'm expecting the sequel to be better in certain categories, but that's not one of them. Would love to be proven wrong, though.

Such a great episode. All the bits about Paxton's character's checkered history as The Extreme had me cracking up.

You can tell the reporter that wrote that article is none too happy.

$48M-$52M domestic opening weekend projection. I think it blows that away, no pun intended...

I just watched it online and thought it was pretty good. Will watch again no doubt.

Have seen several reviewers dock it for this.

Think we are getting an amazing movie... totally proving my initial instinct about this project to be incorrect.

If a reviewer is docking the movie for not screeching about climate change (terrible term there, the climate changes constantly - what the term should always be is man-made climate change, which is what I take issue with), then that reviewer is not worth more than a bucket of warm moose piss.

No agenda in Hwood though. They are just trying to make pure, honest entertainment.

My drafthouse showing tonight was totally full and had an audience that loved it. I think this has potential to be the biggest film of the summer.

They annoyed me with the absolutely bull**** science about 2 minutes into the film but that was to be expected. I think it has the heart the first one did and I really enjoyed it.

For me that definitely wasn't the case. They're not awful, but you don't have nearly the acting talent in those roles that you did for the first one.

Hell yeah. Awesome to hear.

My weather knowledge goes about as a deep as my weather app, so I'm hoping/assuming the science bull**** goes right over my head.

When is everyone else seeing it? Who's seeing it tomorrow?

Per usual, I won't be seeing it until Saturday night.

Saturday morning.

Watching the original for maybe the first time since the late 1990s. Fun enough in a similar way as Top Gun was. I'm hoping the sequel lands similarly to Top Gun Maverick as compared to its predecessor.

The effects and action are great.

The story is meh. The characters are too dour (save for Glen Powell and a surprising MVP Maura Tierney). And…I know I'm going to sound nit picky about a disaster movie…but it asks you to suspend belief way too much.

Look, I was primed to love this. The original is near and dear to my heart. That movie moves at a break-neck pace and is so much fun the whole time. Twisters feels like it slams on the breaks every time you think it's about to take off and then has an ending so unbelievable that I was rolling my eyes.

BUT it looks great.

We just got out of an early showing at the Palladium here in SA. I went in with tempered expectations more so just based on how high up Twister is on my all time fav list. I was wrong! This movie blew my expectations out of the freaking water. Loved it. Fast paced, beautifully shot, amazing soundtrack! Get ready to have a fun time at the movies! And now only 8 days away from my most anticipated movie since Endgame! What a week to a be a movie fan ladies and gentleman! Let's F Go!

Hang on. Maura Tierney is the MVP of this? Nothing surprising about that, bc she's the MVP of everything she's been in.

Now I'm in.

It asks no more of a suspension of disbelief scientifically than the first movie. If I can do it as someone who literally spent grad school in atmo I think it's not a big lift.

The science is definitely dumb and I could make a gigantic list of things that don't make sense but if that's what you're focused on then you're doing it wrong.
