Is Timothy Olyphant a big name? He was so great in Justified, but has never been a big name in the movies.

I'm 4 eps into Justified. Trying to stick with it but after the first episode it got a little slow. Does it pick up?

I'm jealous of you. Do not stop. Season 1 is good but takes a minute to find itself. Everything after that is gold.

On the Deadwood note, Ian McShane is pretty great. Awful/fantastic as Al Swearengen, amazing as Winston in John Wick, lots of other great roles and one of the best narrator voices in the world. Looking forward to watching him in American Star which looks kind of Equalizer-ish.

Another great voice/character actor who's gotten pretty big, Jeffrey Wright. First noticed him as Felix Leiter in Casino Royale and he's just perfect in everything he does.

Ben Foster is a great one.

I nominate Barry Pepper. He's probably my favorite character in Saving Private Ryan and he's got a ton of great roles to his name. He was great as Lucky Ned in True Grit too

My wife and I named our son Raylan.

First season is a little slow but overall it's a fantastic series. The reboot with Raylan in Detroit was OK but not as great as the original run.

We love it so much we rewatch it every 2 or 3 years.

Justified City Primeval was not as good because they took Raylan out of Kentucky away from his people and it lost a lot of its charm.

Love that you have a son with that fine name.

Good place had a string of incredible guest stars over the years.
WARNING: I have a deep-seated desire for others to love the Star Wars franchise as much as I do, in exactly the way I do, and get snippy and sensitive and passive-aggressive when they don't.

Jared Harris

The number of high-quality credits to his name are too many to name, but he flies under most people's radar. He can play the terrifying villain just as well as the loving father. The hen-pecked beat-down pathetic guy as well as the past-his-prime bad ass with a little left in the tank. He's a character actor with an unexpectedly wide range, but he can also be the everyman. The emotion he can show with just a look is amazing. His stint on Mad Men blew me away, and Chernobyl (where he was the lead) is the best miniseries of the last decade in my opinion.

He definitely got his old man's acting chops!

Hard for me to just come up with one, but I will parrot Walton Goggins. He's been fantastic in everything I've seen him in, and am always excited to see him in a show/movie. I'm especially excited to see him in Fallout.

Michael Shannon would be my vote. He is amazing in every role he's in. Thought his best work was in Boardwalk Empire. He's also REALLY GOOD in George & Tammy.

This dude has quietly put together one of the absolute best resumes of the past 20 years or so, and more importantly, he always plays super interesting characters, no matter how small the part. And his first movie was The Dark Knight!

Some highlights:
The Dark Knight
Prisoners (He's fantastic in this)
Ant-Man
Blade Runner 2049
The Suicide Squad
Dune
Oppenheimer

Contact, The Hurt Locker, Green Mile, Treme, and countless bit parts in more shows than you can you imagine. He can play an a-hole, a nice guy, the hero, the villain. Sometimes he's the lead, and sometimes he's just a guy. And if you ever want to binge a good show that was cancelled too soon, you should give "Hack" a try. Great show.

Bill Paxton came to mind immediately, although he wasn't really "not a big name" anymore by the time he died, imo. At least he was on the cusp of big name-ness! Same with Timothy Olyphant.

Michael Biehn and Stephen Root are also faves of mine!

My list (many of whom may be on the same cusp or maybe even beyond):
Bob Odenkirk
Michael McKeon
Christopher Guest
Eugene Levy
Giancarlo Esposito
Alan Tudyk
Morena Baccarin
And in keeping with the Firefly part of my list, Gina Torres has been in a lot of stuff and shown good range.

This is a good one that would have never come to mind for me. Was exceptional in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" as well. And damn, I did not realize he was that creepy Baron Harkonnen character in Dune.

First thing I remember seeing him in was The Manchurian Candidate in 2004 and thought he nailed that role.

I like Arnold Vosloo, as well.

He's from South Africa and of Dutch and German ancestry. He tends to play bad guys, and he's one of the best at it.

Best known for playing Imhotep in The Mummy and terrorist Habib Marwan on season 4 of 24.

He was so damn cringey in that. Although, to be fair, maybe he nailed that role? He was a new age west coast hippie cult leader who thought he was "enlightened" after all. Everything about that type of person would be cringe.
