Watched this last night, but a fire alarm interrupted us. The theater manager rewound the movie for us and gave us free tickets for next time though, so all is well

I thought this was great. My only criticism is that the lead up to the end was about 15 min too long. Otherwise, this was great. Both of the Furiosa actors did a great job. Didn't care as much for Hemsworth's role.

Just saw it tonight. It was a good movie, but a bit too long. I thought the characters were great and built up nicely. It felt choppy, which is clearly intended; you end up feeling like you just watched several episodes of a limited series. Appealing cinematography and good action scenes. Will definitely watch again. Good addition to the Mad Max universe.

Daughter and I watched it today. It was a fun movie, but I agree it was long. I thought the special effects were great.

Judging by the fact that this is going to fall flat at the box office it seems as though most people thought it was overrated and don't care to revisit the characters.

Definitely another case of the Hollywood hype machine trying to manufacture fan enthusiasm when the box office makes what should have been clear, abundantly clear.

I thought furioasa was one of the best characters this century though?

This is such a weird way to interpret certain people enjoying a movie. Why can't "Hollywood" simply be excited for certain movies that maybe other parts of the country aren't? Fury Road is a BIG deal *within* the industry. For what reasons, damn near everyone I know who works in film and covers film absolutely loves that movie. Now, a chunk of those same people seem to be into this movie as well, and have simply expressed as much online. I don't see that as trying to "manufacture fan enthusiasm." They just... enjoyed it.

Not to mention, after the objective success of Fury Road, any studio would have been insane not to try and capitalize on it with another installment. So I don't understand what's "abundantly clear."

Was nine years too much of a gap between movies? Possibly.

Should they have made a sequel instead of a prequel? Maybe so.

But this is the story Miller wanted to tell, and a lot of people really seem to like it... just not enough to make for a massive Memorial Day weekend at the box office.

Which sucks, but that's just the way these things go sometimes. Otherwise, what's the problem?

I don't have any problem with it, but it was a dumb money move. Small audience - small budget, big audience - big budget.

All the X superlatives are way over the top, aside from the praise Hemsworth is getting. He carried the movie, and this from someone who would pay full price to see Anya-Taylor stand there and pick her nose for 2 hours.

I mean yeah Fury Road had some really cool special effects but at the end of the day there was a lot of weird gross stuff about it too, a meh story, and no character attachment. I don't see how this universe appeals to larger audiences.

Also just another loss for Hollywood on movie theaters. Outside of a few special movies I don't know how much longer studios are going to be able to keep losing money at the theaters and then streaming services are losing money on all these productions as well. Don't know when this finally all comes to a head financially.

So says YOUR subjective opinion. Otherwise, Fury Road currently sits at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and made nearly $400M worldwide. Again, it would be malpractice for any studio not to make a follow up to that kind of success.

As for the larger box office trends, you're conveniently leaving out that Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong, Kung-Fu Panda 4, The Beekeeper, etc have all OVER-PERFORMED this year. Never mind the fact that studio/theaters have long since been anticipating a down year due to the strikes, and that 2025 will no doubt be a return to form, with the insane amount content scheduled to release then. In fact, I will bet anyone here that 2025 does over $10B domestic, and that all this box office worry is rendered completely moot by this time next year.

Pretty similar opening weekend numbers to Fury Road.

Will likely end up renting this one but looking forward to it. Love the universe.

It's interesting to me to watch the evolution of the marketing of this film. The initial marketing of this fillm was all Ana Taylor Joy and focused on Furiosa. Didn't know Hemsworth was even in this movie.

ALL of the marketing in the last week and a half has been 100% Hemsworth and you wouldn't know this movie was supposed to be about Furiosa. You would think the movie should be named after his character.

I'm sure it's happened before but not sure I've seen such diametrically opposed marketing with one film like this.

I don't understand why some people actually root for movies to fail. And yes, it's clear from their posts that they're happy the movies "underperformed" (at least by their standards).

Furiosa was never going to be a Mission Impossible/Jurassic Park/Avengers level money maker. That doesn't mean its a failure or wasn't worth being made.

Saw it Saturday and it was a blast. Highly recommend if you liked Fury Road. Just wild and crazy and a lot of fun.

I think there's a case to be made to root for some pop culture things to fail. The case that this should be one of those things is beyond flimsy though.

Saw it Saturday on IMAX, and it was okay compared to my expectations. Definitely a great action movie where the action and set pieces were concerned, but some parts dragged, some parts were hard to decipher even baseline plot point which was strange for a movie like this, and some part I really just struggled to keep my eyes open. Hemsworth was great. Fury Road is one of the best movies of all-time to me, so I came away disappointed overall. Maybe need to give it another shot.

Finally saw this, and while not as good as Fury Road, it's still incredibly entertaining and, if anything, enriches Fury Road in a really cool way. I saw it with my parents, one of my sisters, and both of my brothers-in-law, and halfway through I was certain they were all hating it. But to my surprise, when the lights came up, everyone except my mom thought it was awesome, and wouldn't stop talking about it. My dad especially. One of my brothers-in-law was the only one who had seen Fury Road prior, and now they all want to watch it at some point this week (my mom, not so much). This one is definitely a different animal than that one - it's structured way differently, and yeah, feels a lot longer - but overall is such a complete experience. To the point where THIS now feels like the main story, and Fury Road almost feels like an extended epilogue of sorts, but in the best way.

Fastest 2.5 hour movie I've ever watched. I thought it was good, and as somebody said earlier made Fury Road even better by default. Now my 21 yr old son wants to watch the original Mad Max which we'll do this weekend. Ahhhh, to be a kid again…

You can pretty much skip Mad Max and go straight to the Road Warrior.

No way, I love the first Mad Max movie. My son hasn't seen it, but I've watched it a dozen times and saw it when it first came out.

Toecutter was so upset about Bubba leaving Johnny the Boy behind to be arrested by Goose and Max because he knew the gang member was about to blow up as Adam Ant.

Bubba Zanetti himself fathered Liev Schreiber.

It does explain why Max is Mad, but it's not very good.

The post apocalypse of The Road Warrior happened between Mad Max and The Road Warrior. There was a massive breakdown in society (we see this in Mad Max), and then there was a nuclear war (this is after Mad Max).

I appreciate each movie for what it is; without Mad Max, there would be nothing else…

Agreed. Mad Max adds much needed context IMO as a big fan of this franchise, it explains Max's nihilism.
