The end credits to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Nothing flashy. No additional scenes. But it sticks with me.

You watch this spy movie that isn't James Bond action-packed, isn't MI action-packed, just digging for secrets and finding out who you can trust.

The simple piano followed by the rushing anxiety of the orchestra, then closing on the piano and a clarinet gives you a soundtrack to process everything you just watched.

Saving Private Ryan.

The transition from Ryan on the bridge to an older man with his wife and family is so poignant. It shows how some of those men lived long lives and always held those memories of the men and boys that didn't get the chance.

It just hits home how brutal and what a waste war is.

I took my then teenage son to see it when it was released in the theatre again a few years ago. He just sat there in silence until the clean up crew asked us to leave.

Just got done watching Gladiator. I love the final 30 seconds or so of that movie. The pan up to the Rome skyline with the Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard music playing, fade to black, roll credits. I've always loved it. Just gives that feeling of "damn, that was a great movie."

Great ending shot.

Heat

If you tried to capture "Michael Mann" in one scene, it would be this one. Dark. Heavy. Great score.

Respectfully disagree. This ending always bothered me. Bob clearly had the drop on him.

Movie BS having Al whirl around and firing blind because he saw a shadow. Would rather have seen the bad guy get away in this one.

Redford's decision to narrate with the author's own words was what made this movie for me.

Man, I forgot about Matrix.

That probably edges out Fight Club for my #3 behind FOTR and Gladiator. Hell, that might be #2.

It's just so good. Really pumps you up when the credits hit.

The thing that gets me so much about that scene was when his wife comes to his side and reads the name on the marker, she has no clue who Capt John Miller was. Ryan kept all that to himself all those years, didn't even tell his wife. She just wouldn't understand the weight he carried around.

Agreed. So much emotion in that scene.

And my interpretation is that it took him 40+ years of trying to live a good life before he felt like he could stand proud in front of Capt. Miller.
