How did they revert back to their old dynamic after that last dinner?

The way women always do: pretend everything is fine and even over-compensate until they can get away from each other. They brought everything to the surface and acknowledged it but i didn't see where anyone sought to make a change based on their conversation. Laurie admitted she was just happy to be "at the table" since all her efforts at happiness have failed. Kate and Jaclyn were affirmed by Laurie so they still have pity for her.

As a 52 y/o woman, I've lived this situation...definitely not in this form, but I have.

I don't think it shows them reverting back at any point after their emotional moment though, and that's why I called it "fixed". I don't mean that they never get into another conflict with each other over the course of their fictitious lives. And I understand that's who they are and is unlikely to really change, thereby almost guaranteeing they will butt heads again over the course of the friendships. But, as far as our story is concerned it was about as "fixed" as friendships can be in a matter of less than a week imo. They left as friends still and likely closer/more honest with each other.

Yeah, this was my read. It's not that they don't still all have flaws and will get into fights - it's the acceptance that their relationships are worth it regardless.

I thought the conceit of seeing these characters through the lens of Buddhism was pretty fascinating compared to the other seasons. To me, the apex of the show's theme was in Tim's meeting with the Monk. First, when Piper is listening to the book on tape, you hear "Identity is a prison. We build the prison, lock ourselves inside, then throw away the key." So then, when Tim goes to meet the monk, the monk explains that people come there because they have stripped themselves of community and family and spirituality, leaving only the self. And it's the same prison identity they've built.

For Rick it's very obvious and on the nose. He's decided this man ruined his life. It doesn't matter how or why, only that it's the essence of his identity because it's how he's decided to define himself. The wellness doctor tries to tell him that he can let go of this, and tragically, he tries to find her one last time to do exactly that, but he can't meet with her and can't change.

For Tim, it's the "running from pain" comments from the monk that help him see his own prison - successful father willing to do anything to protect that reputation in the eyes of his friends and family. I think the final scene with him on the boat is trying to turn to family instead to sit in the pain instead of running from it.

I think Laurie's final monologue was about seeing herself for the first time as well, admitting to her own sadness and failures. And doing so to her friends, we hope, was about turning to community while sitting her pain instead of running from it. She went on the trip with the expectation that an extravagant trip with friends would fix her through opulence and pleasure. In the end, we hope what fixes her was the realization that the trip didn't fix anything other than to show her success wouldn't heal her pain.

Chelsea arguably changed Saxson, who was so flummoxed that she didn't want him and so hurt when she called him souless that it caused him to be introspective and to look at the identity he had fashioned, even if he's a little ashamed of it (i.e., not wanting Piper to know about the book he's reading, hiding it in the couch cushions, etc.).

My favorite part of the episode were all of Victoria's facial reactions to Piper complaining about the monastery.

Third time this season that facial reactions were such a player.

Rick reacting to Frank
Chelsea to Chloe and Saxon
Victoria to piper

Some of them between Jaclyn, Laurie and Kate were good too.

So who do we think might cross over to S4?

I think Belinda is done. And Zion. Unless she is now the wealthy guest.

Clearly Rick and sadly Chelsea are done.

I dont think anyone from Thailand continues unless it's in Thailand again and that's not been the pattern.

Maybe the Ratliffs but I kinda doubt it. I've seen enough.

I could see the gaggle of women going on another vacay since they made up more or less but definitely still have issues.

Greg/Gary/Steve could be back of course. But it may have run its course.

If I had a wishlist it would include more Frank for sure.

You could mashup of several others from s1 s2 and s3 i suppose but that would seem contrived. I've heard Mike white say bringing back multiple like that intrigued him.

Give me a winter setting maybe or Africa and a safari hunt for the danger element.

I liked this season, but I get a bigger kick out of watching 7 episodes of awkward conversations than I enjoy the blood bath at the end.

Would be cool scenery, but I feel like that would be missing on the dynamic of the local employees disconnect with the wealthy American tourists more than seasons 1 & 3. Season 2 was in Italy so maybe I shouldn't be that surprised.

Mike White also said on the interview after the episode last night that he wanted to get away from the whole "waves crashing on rocks thing" the next season, so maybe something inland...

that's exactly what she would do too.

I'm hoping he brings back Sweeney and Dadarrio.

If he said he wants to get away from ocean then I think this is exactly right.

If you want an idea just go to the Four Seasons locations on their website. Four Seasons Serengeti would be my guess based on that information, but I think the locations in Morocco - like Marrakech, Rabat, and Casablanca are very likely.

Sunday's season finale of The White Lotus was seen by 6.2 million viewers in the United States, HBO announced Monday.

Viewership was 51% higher than the Season 2 finale, which drew 4.1 million U.S. viewers.

In further statistics, HBO said Season 3 viewership grew week over week for the last three weeks. The season premiere was initially seen by 2.4 million viewers, representing 2.5x growth.

By now, the season premiere has a total of 20 million viewers, and the season has 16.

Impressive. Most impressive.

Bill Simmons also seemed to forget this conversation ever happened last night.

Would it be beyond this team to mis-direct? Well absolutely fkn not.

Of course the next location depends on what incentives they get, political and economic stability at the location, local cooperation etc:
But all things being equal, the four seasons Serengeti would be amazing and so on brand. Plus it's inland, it's another continent, and where else can you more easily mock rich white people than a place that experienced colonialism?

White said in an interview last night that season four will return to somewhere in Europe. They're scouting locations as we speak, and it sounds like has a basic idea of what he's looking for.
