Part of the appeal is the veneer of authenticity to the pitch. Former United States Air Force officer and erstwhile UFO whistleblower David Grusch is said to be acting as a consultant on the project. Grusch made headlines in 2023 when he testified before Congress that the government has been studying the spacecraft and bodies of aliens, all the while suppressing leaks.

Between this and the Spielberg project - each likely releasing within a year or so of each other - there's definitely something in the air (no pun intended). Filmmakers of this caliber tackling the subject with this kind of weight and seriousness back-to-back is going to be incredible.

Just talked to my buddy who's going to be working on this. He worked on Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming F1 as well (both directed by Kosinski), a few minor stories/details for which I've shared here on the board before. He actually has his own UFO story that happened to him and a friend 25+ years ago. Nothing super eventful, but definitely more than just a far-off sighting. Made the hair on my arms stand up when he recounted it one night at a bar. This is what he just said, re: this movie...

"My story is a 2 out of 10. The sh*t I've heard is a 15/10"

The soft disclosure prep via media you thinking? Does seem a little weird timing to have such heavyweights taking this on with all the rest piling on.

Possibly?

Reading the tea leaves, it sounds like Spielberg's movie is more of an original idea, and probably more of a traditional Spielberg blockbuster, focusing more on the human element than the sci-fi element. But with Grusch's involvement in the Bruckheimer/Kosinski project, I could definitely see that one - of the two movies - being part of some kind of official soft disclosure prep for sure.

Then again, to this day most experts/insiders say that Close Encounters of the Third Kind is the most accurate-to-real-life alien movie ever made, with official ties, for instance, to ufology legends J. Allen Hynek and Jacques Vallee. So maybe Spielberg is dipping into that well again here, going more Close Encounters than War of the Worlds, if that makes sense. We just don't have enough info yet, but the rumored title - Disclosure - is certainly intriguing.
