Anyone checking this out tonight?

It feels like there's next to zero excitement for this movie, even among horror fans. The day-and-date Peacock release, plus the embargo being lifted literally hours before the first showings, are probably a terrible sign, too.

Personally I really enjoyed 2018, and mostly enjoyed Kills but had some big problems with it.

Based on the few things I've heard/seen, it seems like this movie will be divisive at best. Seems to be typical for "final" movies in a franchise these days. I've lowered my expectations quite a bit but still hopeful I'll enjoy it.

Methinks this is intentional by Universal.

I'll watch it but only cuz I have Peacock. The second one was just awful. The first one was fine, but it's time to put Michael Myers out to pasture.

Or just do SOMETHING new. This has been the same movie redone since 1978.

From the sound of it this is most definitely the case here.

Well that was...different. And by that I mean it wasn't a Halloween movie for 90% of the runtime.

As a big fan of this franchise, I will say that the finale REALLY worked for me. But, the route that took to get there is just a bizarre choice to me.

Spoiler thoughts below.

Look, I'm all for trying something new. But, for the final movie in the Halloween/Laurie saga, you decide to focus on an entirely new character for a solid 80 minutes? Really? This could've been called Corey - A Halloween Story.

Furthermore, I still have NO idea what the hell happened between Michael and Corey. Was this basically DGG's version of the Curse of Thorn, except without actually explaining it? If you're gonna do it, do it. But commit to it early, and actually explain it. This is something you introduce in the first or second movie of the trilogy, not in the last one.

Also, the final confrontation, satisfying as it was, had zero buildup to it. Laurie spends no time preparing for Michael or even expecting him. Corey dies, and suddenly Michael is there and Laurie is ready to throw down. Again, super odd choice. I just wish there was more moments of Laurie actually preparing for the fight like she did in 2018.

Which brings me to my biggest complaint. So after the Laurie you introduced in 2018, who's spent 40 years training for a showdown with Michael...you're telling me after he kills her DAUGHTER and disappears, suddenly she's finally able to move on with her life, even knowing he's still out there? I'm sorry, but that was such a huge stretch to me. I just don't understand that choice at all for her character. I just don't buy that.

And again, it's just a shame the leadup to the finale wasn't better, cause that really worked for me. But it could've been SO much better if the previous hour and a half weren't so weird and had nothing to do with Michael.

Also, small nitpick, where was Lindsay in that final procession of people? She should've been there.

Overall I see this as a big missed opportunity for what could've been a GREAT final movie, but ended up just being okay.

They could have had the plot for the first half of the movie and then had the second half be like the last 10 minutes.

I didn't like it because it wasn't a Halloween movie at all. Wasn't the worst ever and had a couple good moments but nothing like I was expecting. Not good

I thought it was great. Could it have been better?

Each person will have their own "I wish this coulda happened".
or
It would have been so much better if only they added XXXX.

But these guys brought it back and gave us a nice three run final. Loved it.

How am I to believe a supernatural being like Mike who just felled a mob is going to be taken down by some geriatric? I'll tune in just to see how horrendous this will be but to me the series always ended with H2O

I almost walked out. Couple of good kills but wasn't scary and the plot was very odd. Hated it.

Thinking about it, I think there's an easy fix that would've vastly improved both Kills and Ends for me.

Basically, swap most of the story in both movies.

So Kills starts with Michael escaping the fire and killing all the firefighters, and then opening titles. After that, we get a 3 year time jump, and get Corey's story. Most of the movie plays out in much the same way, and when Michael starts killing again, you see him get slowly get his strength back with each kill. Michael kills Corey but now rather than going to Laurie's house, he goes to Karen's house and kills her.

Then for the final movie, it's been a year, and Laurie is back to badass fighter mode that she was in the first movie, having lost her daughter. Michael is basically the unstoppable machine he was in Kills, sans that crappy side plot of the other escaped mental patient, finally culminating with a showdown much like we got in this movie. That would've made it much more satisfying.

Woof. We just finished this. This was bad.

The only cool part is that Jamie Lee Curtis has been in it all these years

I didn't expect it to be great or anything, but geez, that was terrible. Wasn't a Halloween movie in any real sense of the word except for maybe the last 15 minutes and even that was pretty bad.

Watching Halloween Kills now. This is the worst movie in the franchise. Michael sprints. Michael throws toys. Michael ding dong ditches.

Yeah Halloween Kills is pretty bad too, not as bad as Halloween Ends though.

I'm not sure I can even blame Green that much on Kills. Both Halloween 2018 and Kills had some good looking scenes and from a direction standpoint I guess not a ton wrong with it.

But whoever wrote Kills... Movie has some of the most cringeworthy scenes and dialogue. "EVIL DIES TONIGHT!". "We are the real monsters!".

Woof.

At least Halloween 4-6/H20 knew how to stay in it's lane. It didn't try and be deep. Just set 'em up and knock 'em down.

Was the crazy old hobo under the bridge supposed to be John carpenter? Are we to believe that Myers was able to look into the eyes of folks and determine if they were killers too? What kind of supernatural power is that? Was he living under the bridge doing…what? Eating what? Being fed by crazy John Carpenter? Makes no sense. This movie deserves answers the way refs deserve to take the podium after blowing big calls.

I mean, I don't think it's any different than leaving a sporting event early.

Some times you are excited about an event and midway through it you realize your time is much better spent elsewhere.

It took me 3 tries to get through all of Halloween Kills. Not sure I would have "walked out", but it was bad enough I turned it off until later twice.

I just read an article saying he's only in the movie 10 mins and 55 seconds on a 1 hour 50 minute movie. F that. Won't watch.

Who is "he", Michael Myers? He was in the original LESS than 10 minutes and it has spawned 13 total films.

Sure but to be fair, Michael Myers is stalking off-screen throughout most of the movie. That's kind of where the suspense was.

I haven't seen the new one, but I assumed it still had the feeling the bad guy could show up at any time. I agree, that lurking danger is what made the original great and the limited screen time then ADDS to the effect due to the buildup.

Don't want to spoil too much, but Michael Myers is essentially not a factor for the first hour.

I get what they were going with, thematically, but it just didn't work well for me.

I have A List and my movie theater is like 5 minutes away. For all intents and purposes, any movie I go see is "free". I could tell about 30 minutes in (for a 2 hour movie) that it was going to suck. I stuck it out but you can't blame me for wanting to bail. I had little hope after the disaster Halloween Kills was.
