From the creators of Westworld, which likely means this will start out incredible, but then get worse and more rushed over time. That said, Nolan and Joy are only producing (not writing or directing), and this *does* look pretty sweet...

Pilot is good, not great. Really cool concept, with slick execution, but the folksy dialogue/accents in the rural North Carolina part of the story are kind of cheesy and annoying. Still, I'm interested enough to keep going, as the conceit itself and the future London stuff are all super cool and intriguing.

Amazon dropped the first two episodes last night, so I'll probably watch the second at some point this weekend.

Anyone else plan on checking it out?

I'll probably give it a shot. Looks interesting.

I plan to watch. Initial rotten tomatoes ratings weren't good, but they've improved somewhat.

My brother-in-law lives in rural NC. The dialogue and accents ARE "folksy".

I'm not complaining about the folksiness in and of itself. Rather, it's just kind of over exaggerated and cliched. I imagine Carolinians might feel the same about the way some of these characters talk as we do about the way the characters in Varsity Blues talk. The whole North Carolina aspect just has a very YA novel/The CW feel. That said, it's not too distracting or even bad. The futuristic London stuff, on the other hand, is awesome so far. And I can understand the exaggeration on both ends, to really try and create a juxtaposition between the two worlds.

I always wonder why they can just have people talk normal, and say they are from North Carolina (or any other location the story calls for).
As long as you don't have a distinct accent from another area, it would be fine. As in, you couldnt have a New Jersey accent and say "i'm from rural georgia"

Slick, cool concept, but kinda cheesy?
Hmmm…..I'm trying to remember what that reminds me of, it'll come to me.

Just watched the first two episodes. I thought this was great, excellent even. People critiquing this probably just don't get or like hard sci-fi.

I haven't read the book(s) this was based on but they were written by William Gibson - he's a highly regarded sci-fi writer if you haven't heard of him. I've read some of his other works and loved all of it.

And given that this is based on his books I expect things to get even wilder as the season goes on.

On one hand, it's a bit second-rate, kind of Westworld-light, and is really starting to remind me of Outer Range in its somewhat generic depiction/vibe of rural-life. But after two episodes I'm all the way in. This is still some really cool sci-fi, with a decently compelling cast, that's starting to reel me in on multiple levels. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the season.

I love this genre so I'm here for this one. It would be cool if this was earth shattering sci-fi but I'll be satisfied if it's just well thought out, decent characters and acting, and visually appealing.

Is there any thought on what and how is occurring across time difference between NC and London?

Were the faceless bots a version of what the sim players are occupying or something else given the robot hand scene?

Just curious to hear the insights of those who've watched episode one.

Got through the first two episodes and like it fine. Story has been generally engaging and by and large the cast has been decent or better. I like both of the leads. I didn't really notice the North Carolina accents as any kind of distraction, but living in Charlotte, I hear accents like that every day.

I enjoyed it!

And the accents kinda worked for me? Something just clicked for me.

Accents didn't bother me. Honestly one review I read praised them, especially since Moretz is from Atlanta

As far as the accents go, I think what they are missing is the Ruth Langmore type character to be so unabashedly rural and vulgar with the accent that you don't focus on anyone else's.

Liking it so far.

I draw parallels between this and Altered Carbon (Season 1, as that abomination of Season 2 I pretend never happened). Good show so far and loved the drone usage and neural networks they use. Stuff like that is coming soon to a battlefield near you.

The Drone stuff already happening. This coming from a recent retired Marine Raider/Recon Marine

Marine, huh? Are the manuals for these drones written for you guys like a Dr. Suess book?

Did enjoy the first two episodes.
Pretty clear parallels to the feel and even some of the ideas of westworld, which is fine…just hope it can sustain at least this season at this level.

It's like a less sappy/indulgent Ready Player One

"The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded FLIR Systems a $10 million contract for dozens of SkyRaider drones.

FLIR Systems says the R80D SkyRaider is the company's most advanced military small unmanned aerial system, equipped with long-range, high-resolution electro-optical/infrared sensors and able to carry loads of up to 4.4 pounds. The company says the SkyRaider platform was specifically developed for U.S. defense"

Gibson has been a rough read for me after the early 90s, but I enjoyed this book. I'm glad it was adapted, and hopefully some of Neal Stephenson's work makes the jump too.

There's nothing wrong with Philip K. Dick apart from the nagging feeling that time stopped for a generation before the baton was passed.

I didn't catch this until 3 episodes were out so I was able to watch them over the weekend.
Thought it was great and look forward to the next episode.

Just binged first 4. Started off strong. Didn't realize it was based on a Gibson book until 2nd episode. Liking it so far. I haven't read the book but I imagine it's a bit more hard sci fi than the tv adaptation. Regardless I'm definitely in for the season.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone catch that in episode 4, when they were showing her what happened to all the people who died and showed the electrical grid collapsing from the hack in North America, the Texas grid was still holding strong?

Suck it Beto!

I noticed that as well. That was a slow episode and took me 3 attempts to finish. 1st was action then this was more background.

Bad acting, bad filming, bad dialogue. Made a few minutes into episode 2 when the "they hacked us back" line hit. Seen enough
