Oh, wow, you're right. Damn. I had no idea. I once gave McConaughey the Horns down in Malibu (which was one of the funniest/weirdest encounters ever) and now I can do the same to Powell and Hamm if I ever see them.

I saw Confess Fletch this past weekend.

It was the type of movie that I call "fun". I liked the setting, Boston(?), even though Boston is in the triple digits on my bucket list. The movie was based on a Gregory McDonald novel written in, get this, 1976. For some reason that gave it a great Fletch / 70s / 80s cop show vibe. It just played out differently than if it had been committee written over texts by 25 year olds, like many of todays movies feel. It depended on the story and humor instead of CGI and action.

The other weird thing was that even though John Hamm made the role his, you cold picture 80s Chevy saying every line. I think the source material is that unique, and the character is that strong. I can't see any current actor doing with a character like Axel Foley or Riggs and Murtaugh what Hamm did with Irwin M. Fletcher.

Good fun movie.

Paramount owns Showtime, and all Showtime content is now also available via Paramount+.

Well I looked it up and that's not just a free change.

There is is a Showtime/Paramount+ bundled price. But if you have Paramount+ only you don't get that.

Paramount+ is $4.99 the bundle with Showtime is $11.99.

Not sure I'd pay that.

I could totally see him being the type that also runs a secret Allison Mack like cult in his spare time.

TCTTS, did you ever see Fletch??? Apologies if I missed an update someplace.

This was one of my favorite movies I had taped off of TV. I had Fletch and Dragnet on one VHS tape.

I liked it. Very fletch like plot, fletch like humor, but not quite as campy as the original (which was good and bad).
The one thing I missed was the fletch music. Kind of took away from it not having it, always is baffling to me how they can get all the rights to these and not get the music.

Chevy always said Fletch was his favorite role cuz he could just be himself.

He sure has some iconic characters from my youth.

Likewise to others Fletch, Ty Webb and Clark Griswold were infinitely quotable for me.

And as much as the Community cast hates him the show would not have been the same without his completely unhinged and un PC bigotted character Pierce Hawthorne. It needed a bad guy.

I know he's a giant ass to work with but I find him hysterical and appreciate his willingness to do anything.

He also was the originator of Weekend Update on SNL the most enduring part of SNL and he set the standard for it.

Odd note he played in a band (drums) in college with 2 guys named Donald F agen and Walter Becker who went on to form the classic rock band Steely Dan. Chevy is said to have perfect pitch.

It made me sad when I learned he's difficult to get along with considering my affection for all the characters you listed above. I can't remember where I heard it but evidently he had a pretty rough childhood. Specifically his mother never really loved him and supposedly he's always just been trying to get her approval. It might have been a Joel McHale or Dan Harmon interview, whoever it was basically said once they learned more about where he came from the behavior didn't bother them as much because they just felt sorry for him. They didn't give him a pass for it, but they did pity him. They didn't understand why he couldn't grasp onto the people in his life that actually did care, but he'd been damaged emotionally by the treatment from his mother.

I do like that of all the countless people he disliked, he always loved Norm MacDonald and said he was the only other person to do Weekend Update justice.
Chase has also been a pretty vicious leftist over the years.

as opposed to Hamm, who is a democrat but doesn't take himself very seriously and is quite funny in real life.

I love hearing Jon Hamm on comedy podcasts like Comedy Bang Bang and Never Not Funny. He can really keep up and play along with professional comedians and improv people. He's been great in about every thing he's been in lately and this was no different.

Just finished watching it. Really enjoyed it. There were definitely moments where I thought that Chevy Chase would have delivered a line better. Hamm did a really good job with it though. It was a lot of fun.

Saw this last weekend. I'm a huge Fletch fan and quote it often in everyday language so excited to see this.

It was fun but a little disjointed. Jon Hamm did a good job. I could not stop laughing at the line: "Where the fudge is made?" which also shows my lack of maturity.

Have probably seen this close to three times now, through various cable rewatches of sections here and there, and it just gets better each time.

Pretty fun movie. Hamm is quite good. I thought the two cops were good characters. The plot lost me a time or two, probably because it took me three viewings to get through the movie due to small children. Worth a rewatch.

Chevy Chase will forever be Fletch. However, this was a fun watch and Hamm did well. Definitely worth watching. I could see Ryan Reynolds pulling it off too.

Finally watched it and I'm underwhelmed. I think it was well written but I didn't care for Jon Hamm as Fletch. He wasn't bad, I just heard all his lines in Chevy Chase's voice and wished it was a movie starring a younger version of him.

That's funny, as I have seen photo's of him and Randy Quaid hanging out together recently. And ole Randy is way off on the other extreme end of the political spectrum.

But I think the political spectrum is more of a circle that a flat line, in a lot of cases, so I guess that could make sense.
