Reading Fire and Blood would be like reading an encyclopedia of the history of Europe from 1700-1915 then reading several amazing historical fiction accounts of WWI and WWII.

Everything you need to know about the Targs to enjoy ASOIAF is in the books themselves.

Resurrecting this thread. Just FYI - this post is concerning a show leak about Rook's Rest. I'm going to assume you all already know what happened in the book but the spoiler tag discusses what will happen this Sunday on the show.

Rumor is that Rook's Rest will go similar to the book except that Aemond/Vhagar will intervene late in the Rhaenys/Aegon fight and Aemond will intentionally attack in a way so that Aegon is also hurt. It's more grey in the book but supposedly less ambiguous in the show. Criston will then rush to the scene to find Aemond standing over burnt up Aegon, sword in hand, though it is unclear whether he was actually going to directly kill Aegon.

That seems like an unnecessary deviation, but they certaily set it up with the thing in the brothel.

I'm going to hate watching Rhaenys die.

Haven't read the book but I do already know about the Battle over God's Eye. Will that occur this season or next?

seems like they would make it the season 10 cliff hanger and leave the fates of Aemond and Daemon unknowns to drive season 3.

I think it's more likely, based on current pacing (Rook's Rest being midway through Season 2) that the Gullet and Jace will be our Season 2 finale. There are a LOT of battles that need to happen between now and the Gods Eye - the Fishfeed (Starks beating Lannisters? There is no way that's not included) and the Butcher's Ball to give Criston a proper send off. The dragon seeds haven't even gotten their dragons yet but the Treason of Tumbleton also happens before the Gods Eye.

So Ulf wasn't lying about his lineage? Nice

They've crammed Addam and Alyn down our throats to get him on dragons. I have a bad feeling they are going to combine the character of nettles with the white worm and get her on sheepstealer so she can steal daemon back from Rhaenyra

Yup, I have the same sense. There is no way this isn't happening and I hate the decision.

Thoughts on how Rook's Rest was handled?

There were some minor/medium changes but overall same outcome. Watching Rhaenys/Meleys death was harder than I expected, they honestly did a good job of making it sad. Overall great episode.

I think they've done a great job making real characters out of people who barely get 4-5 sentences of characterisation in Fire and Blood.

Wife who is a casual watcher can't wait for Aemond's and Criston's death lol.

Thanks for bumping but it's way less active than it was for S1 :/

I thought Rook's Roost was fantastic, though it definitely deviates a little from the book, which I think is perfectly fine, given that the book is intentionally written to be unreliable outside of generalities. I like the animosity they've built between Aemond and Aegon and look forward to seeing how that aspect plays out.

I read the book but my money is faulty… I CRS.

In the books did they go searching for long lost Targaryens to see if they could be dragon no riders? I don't remember that. I remember "wild" dragons who were riderless. And maybe someone who was maybe a descendant of a *******, or a ******* themselves, may have ridden one of them? Am I making this up?

It's a big plot point in the book. It's called the Sowing. They get Targaryen *******s or people with possible Targaryen ancestry to ride the dragons.

The blacksmith is one as is the guy claiming to be a Targaryen *******. They get Vermithor and Silverwing, who were previously ridden. The other is Addam, one of the two Velaryon sailors/Corlys's ******* (forget which one which but I think it's the not bald one).

I don't think Nettles will be in the show.

Anyone think Alys might be the Three Eyed Raven? We already know that someone else must have been before Bloodraven

Actually they've made such a big deal about Rhaena not having a dragon I think she will get Sheepstealer and they'll combine her role with Nettles sans the affair with Daemon.

I read Fire and Blood years ago and went online to see what happened with the unclaimed/riderless dragons. I know some of these could change for the show but here's what I was able to ascertain:

Vermithor - Hugh Hammer
Silverwing - Ulf the White
Sheepstealer - Nettles in the book, guessing it'll be Addam
Cannibal - no one claims, they might stick with the narrative that no one will try to claim him

Addam gets Seasmoke I believe

Gotcha, I couldn't remember the names of all the unclaimed dragons, thanks for clarifying.

A few unclaimed dragons at Dragonstone, but Sheepstealer and a few others are "wild" in the hills/mountains aren't they?

Remind me, so I don't have to Google it, about Nettles.

Doesn't Alys become Deamon's lover/consort and she's a "witch"?

This.

I'm guessing they are setting this up as:

Alys tempts Daemon but ultimately fails, he stays loyal to Rhaenyra.

Alys then tempts Aemond (in S3) who is basically Daemon Jr. but unlike Daemon, he doesn't have the same loyalty to his brother/family, and Aemond falls for it and gives into the delusions of grandeur

A new post about last night's episode asks "which dragon is in the vail?" I almost blurted out Sheepstealer!

Then remembered I'd probably get banned for ruining things.

Not I.

What's the user name?

Easy to go back and see if they posted on here.

Also, I mean Aemond said, maybe he'd fight Deamon at Harrenhal...

With the amount of time they've spent world building this season, they have a hell of a lot of action to cover and soon. Not to mention getting those non-targ-royalty dragon riders mounted up.

It seems like they are setting up for the Gullet and for the fall of King's Landing very soon. The riots are leading to the fall of King's Landing, and Rhaena being about to find Sheepstealer (looks like they are going to replace Nettles with her, which is fine because Nettles was such a random character) is going to lead to Joffrey/Aegon III/Viserys II being sent to Pentos by themselves, which is why Jace is going to have to fly out there to fight against the Triarchy navy.

My gut says Otto has been negotiating with the Triarchy already. I think they are going to set up for a shock Battle of the Gullet in the next two episodes.

Or for the storming of the dragonpit

That being said, it's insane how in the books Rhaenyra fumbled a 8-4 dragon advantage
