Does this happen this season? I haven't read the books but also love spoilers.

Honestly I don't know how they're going to pace out the civil war but the Battle over the Gods Eye (the name given to their fight) happens in the middle third of the war. So if 4 seasons is the plan I imagine it happens in S3.

So it will be delayed gratification, a la Littlefinger.

One detail I caught in the most recent episode is that they call him King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men. They didn't do that in GoT which always irked me a bit.

Ya they did.

Are you saying they use it in GoT? I just watched 3 different clips to make sure I wasn't misremembering, and they always left out the Rhoynar.

The first time I heard that in the show I knew the show runners weren't gonna dumb stuff down for the audience. No Yara/asha/Osha nonsense. You have trouble with names? **** you heres Baela Laena Laenor Rhaena Helaena Rhaenyra Rhaenys Daemon Aemond Vaemond Aegon Aegon Viserys Viserys Lucerys Jaehaerys Jacaerys Joffrey

There are a lot of cool things they are doing here tthat weren't done in the original series. The heavy hand of religion is the most noticeable one. They made such a big deal with Melisandre and the Lord of Light, but they never scarcely mentioned what everybody else's god(s) were.

I love how much of the castle we're seeing as well. I guess that makes sense because the show is not spanning all 7 kingdoms yet, but it feels like a grander age, which I guess it was to a degree.

Maybe I'm thinking of the books, but I thought they used in when doing the formal titles.

Oh ok. Yeah, they definitely do it in the books. It was a bit surprising when they left it out of GoT since they included the other 2 groups. I guess they wanted to simplify it to you're either blood of the First Men or came later as part of the Andals.

There is actually a you tube video of the GOT naming Kings with titles; never mentions Rhoynar, andals and first men yes but no Rhoynar.

I bow to your greatness. Who is he who so wise in the name of GOT.

Jace definitely feels like he's not long for this world. No idea what happens with Aegon, but he doesn't feel like he'll ever sit the throne either, whether he dies or abdicates to his brother. (Is that allowed in Westeros?)

However it happens, I think it'll be Aemond fighting for the throne.

My prediction is that Daemon ends up killing Aemond, Jace is killed, Aegon is out of the picture (dead, absconded to Essos, etc), Luke is Lord of Driftmark, and the Iron Throne ends up with one of the trueborn Targs born to Rhaenyra and Daemon

I mean, he basically gave away the entire story line of the people that are alive right now.

I understand. It's very suspicious. He's also the guy who pisses and moans about posting stuff that shows up in the previews for the next episode.

However, I have known him through TexAgs for close to a decade and have never seen him do anything like that that I can remember, so it might just be good detective work. At least the part about Daemon killing Aemond could be construed from their staredown in the last episode, and Aemond having it out for the Strong kid. Aegon is king for a while though, I think Aemond rules in his stead for a year or so after he gets hurt fighting Rhaeyns and then he rules a bit longer before getting poisoned.

I'm sure someone will dig up his post once things start playing out, so at least we can have a good laugh.

Ya, no doubt on the last part.

Which one of Luke and Jace die first?

Luke. In fact I'm almost convinced Luke dies next episode, and if not that he'll die in the season finale.

Jace will probably die in S2 but I'm curious to see how they handle his trip to the north before that

In fairness he was sort of wrong about Aegon who lasts till the end and he's definitely wrong about Luke

Howdy fellow cool kids - thanks for the invite canadi! Though I didn't look very hard, I was unaware of this thread's existence.

Having just caught up on the thread... I think you are right on the S1 pacing. Obviously Viserys will be found dead at the start of E9 and the sneaky green council (episode title) proceedings will take place and Aegon will be crowned. Should get the black council's response and Rhaenyra's counter coronation. Episode should end with Luke's death, or maybe on a cliffhanger so that E10 can start with a bang.

Blood and Cheese should make for a classic GoT style season finale.

After writing this, I was looking at the HotD show wiki and noticed E10 is titled "The Black Queen." Maybe "Blood and Cheese" is too obvious of a title, but "The Black Queen" makes me wonder if they'll get that far or not.

Maybe E9 is Aregon's coronation and E10 is Rhaenyra's coronation and we don't get Luke's death or B&C.

Or the black queen could be in reference to Queen Helena following B&C...

I could see either way

Having an episode called Blood and Cheese would be the easiest way to root out the closet book / wiki readers on the non spoiler thread

I didn't even realise the show wiki had access to the episode titles. On HBO max they don't show for me until the day after the episodes.

IMO if the episode is really The Black Queen, I think show ends with Lucerys' death and the war starting.

Blood and Cheese and the first Riverlands battles will probably open S2. But I could be wrong. I can definitely see Blood and Cheese being the last scene of the episode. It would tie together all the rat symbolism throughout S1.

Yea, I'm interested to see if the end season one with Lucerys' death or Blood and Cheese. Either way, I think the main thread is in for a crazy couple of days after the finale.

I've tried to tell my friends to make sure they watch the finale live without giving anything away.

On the preview for next week seems like Luke will get killed leaving Storm's End. There's multiple shots of him on his dragon in the rain, and Vhagar is in the background of one of the shots

I hope they execute Blood and Cheese the way they tricked the audience before the Red Wedding when the two morons show up to do the deal for Edmure Tully to wed a Frey girl. The non-book audience assumes those guys are comic relief right up until the stabbing started.

Having Blood & Cheese seem like simpletons, or even like forgetting which one is Blood and which one was Cheese would be perfect for when they start the killing.

Doesn't Rhaenyra offer peace to Alicent before the war begins?

I think the Rhaenys scene may be more contextual in that aspect in that they hope to resolve everything in one show of force. Hostilities don't really begin until Aemond kills Luke and there's no going back. The hope is that this can be resolved without conflict. Granted, the Greens would still be punished, especially Otto, Ser Criston, and the non-Targs among them, but Alicent and her kids could plead off as pawns in the conspiracy and make out with their lives.

A lot of the show watchers are presuming the war without realizing that just because Aemond and Daemon are always ready to throw hands doesn't mean Rhaenyra and Alicent actually want to fight each other.
