Wasn't "red dirt" invented to include Oklahoma acts like CCR and Stoney when they started getting popular on the Texas college town circuit?

That was always how I understood it

(Lyle Lovett has entered the chat...)

Lyle has a unique sound of his own. Hard to put in a box and categorize it. Hadn't seen his name in this thread so I thought I'd toss it out there. If I missed it, I apologize.

I'm sort of on the fence about going to the Cynthia Woods show. Especially since it appears to be some Texas country thing.

It's a great lineup with REK, Todd Snider, and Hayes Carll. I'd go if I wasn't going to be out of town, although not sure Cynthia Woods is a great venue for this kind of show.

Yeah that ain't no Texas Country lineup (circling back to the argument at hand). I've always wanted to see Todd Snider. I've been really into John R. Miller lately, and Kesley Waldon is pretty good. And of course, Hayes Carll is Hayes Carll.

I'll take your word for it. They were calling it "Texas Uprising," so I made some assumptions. The only time I've seen Hayes Carll was at Gruene Hall in midsummer. It was packed, hotter than the devil's fireplace, and the music wasn't enough to make me want to stay. Depending on the time the show starts, this might be a repeat performance.

We are trying to figure out the schedule timing so we can show up just in time for REK. No desire to see the rest.

Have you figured out who might be opening for him at
Woodlands? I think that might be determinate for me.

Good lineup. Kevin Galloway was lead singer for Uncle Lucious.

I would go see that lineup even if REK wasn't there

Listened to Sturgill on the way in this morning. I love red dirt music!
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Only Sturgill's electronica album can be considered red dirt.

Thanks for the post. I am listening to John R Miller now and I like it. There is a lot of google music coming out of that area lately.

That was at the rodeo at NRG stadium. He put the crowd to sleep faster than something that would put a large crowd to sleep very quickly. I can't think of a good metaphor.
.

This got me and literally made me laugh out loud.

I'm seeing him in Dallas on the 24th. Never seen him love before. I think he has a couple days off before that show, so hopefully that will help him out on a good show.

Be sure to get there in time for the opener. Mike and the Moonpies. Damn good stuff.

Mike and the Moonpies are fun to see live. I saw them several years back, and ran into them at a bar in Deep Ellum after the show and hung out for a bit. Really cool guys.

Yes sir. If it has been a couple years, go check them out again. Their library - and their following - has expanded. They are a talented and serious country band that you can still get in to see and dance to at the small places for $15 and $20. That ain't gonna last forever with these guys.

I used to watch a lot of music acts on YouTube, and about 10-12 years ago, he was on stage at Key West with Jamie Johnson and Raul Malo. The crowd really got into Johnson's acoustic version of "You Can't Cash my Checks," and I always got a kick out of seeing REK sitting in his bitterness.

8 tickets for sale tonight at the Texas Uprising. Not my sale or my tickets but thought people on this thread would be interested.

Light crowd for Hayes Carll. Solid show though. They definitely overpriced the tickets. Hope it fills in some but we were able to get seats right next to ours two days ago so probably not.

Yeah, it was great. Yall prepared me for some Willie Nelson mumbling, but it was far from that.
