Saw him last night in Beaumont, and it was awesome! I was worried it was going to be bad, since it was the 5th night of a 5 night run, but R.E.K. was great.

I know there's been mixed opinion about his shows lately, but I have two tickets I'm trying to sell for his show at Billy Bobs, if anyone is interested

Saw him tonight at The Factory. Good show. Loved the JJW tribute in the encore as well.

Same - he seemed very coherent, sound wasn't too bad and he played most of the songs the crowd wanted to hear. I also enjoyed the JJW mini set, hadn't heard LA Freeway in a long time.

Yeah, his voice may have faded a hair as the night went on, but at 66, still going pretty strong and sounded good. Also been a busy tour for an old dude. And tbh, I think it's kind of always done that. As far as why he sits, just watch him walk onto and off the stage. All is not right with those knees, hips, back, whatever, like many old dudes. I'd be sitting too.

Yea I was there last night and thought it was a good show. He had 2-3 days off before last night, so that may have helped a bit.

Love that venue. I had never been to the Factory before.

Good show last night. Really enjoyed it. The Bomb Factory is such a great venue. I had no idea Mike the Moonpies were opening until 2 about days ago so that was great as well. I was curious if REK would play any bluegrass, but he did not. I think there are 1 or 2 that I missed but here is my lineup. Was great hearing Levelland

Floppy Shoes / Dreadful Selfish Crime / Amarillo Highway / Corpus Christi Bay / Furnace Fan / Sinner Man / Going down in Style / What I Really Mean / Feeling Good Again / Gringo Honeymoon / Merry Christmas from the family / Front Porch Song / 5lb Bass / The Man Behind the Drums / Rose Hotel / Levelland / Shades of Gray / The Road Goes on Forever / Copenhagen / Gypsy Songman / LA Freeway / I Gotta Go / I'm Coming Home

I think you got most of it. He also covered Gypsy Songman just before LA Freeway. Also did I Gotta Go between that and I'm Coming Home.

For anyone wondering, for the encore he came back out alone, did Copenhagen, said how the guitar he had belonged to JJW and covered Gypsy Songman and then started LA Freeway by himself with it, then the band joined him partway into LA Freeway and for the rest of the way

This picture from the Grand 1894 show makes me believe he's retiring from music to become the cool substitute teacher who wants to make learning fun:

This is a pretty cool website, btw. Want to find the Van Halen set list from the 1984 tour you saw at The Summit? This is the place for that.

Was there last night and it was a great send off. The set list alone brought tons of energy from the crowd and he genuinely looked happy to play for his fans.

As he tours, It's got to be a neat thing to have hundreds of thousands of fans sing the words you wrote back to you. But damn he looked old. Don't know if it's the drinkin or genetics, but some folks just age quickly.

The weird thing is, throughout the 90s and early 2000s, he always looked young for his age. I don't remember exactly when it was (seems like it was around 2005 or so), he seemed to age 10 years overnight.

Yeah, I went to a lot of his shows from the mid 90s to early/mid aughts, then it was probably close to 10 years until I went to his Christmas tour in 2016. I remember thinking "holy ***** REK turned into Santa Claus"

How crowded was it? I saw him there in 2016 and it was probably the best show I've seen of his out of double digits. That place can be such a beating though for sold out shows that are way oversold.

The floor looked pretty full, but I would not say oversold nightmare. But full enough where we were definitely happy to be seated above it, partly because my wife is petite and can't see **** in a fairly dense crowd.

Saw Robert earl last night at billy bobs. He put on a great show. Sang a good mix of his popular songs. Told quite a few stories as well. Looked super engaged. Anyone else see the show?

He was in Midland in May and said he had sciatica -- that's why he sits now. Said he was going to have surgery to fix it but he's still sitting.

Saw him tonight at Wagner Noel in Midland for what will be my last time. He put on a fantastic show; told jokes and stories, was really energetic. I love that on this last tour he's breaking out the old album cuts. And the JJW tribute was really cool. He did stand for the final song (sans guitar), walked to the front of the stage, and invited the audience to sing with him.

Delivering presents to millions of children in a single night every year finally caught up to him.

Having to deal with the elf and reindeer labor unions while Amazon creeps in on your market share will add some years to your appearance.

Saw him last night in Austin at the ACL Theatre and thought he put on a good show. The crowd was energetic and he played a lot of his old songs that everyone knew. I agree with the aging comments above - he seems to have aged quite a bit, but I can sympathize with the sciatica. I've had some issues with it recently and can't imagine trying to sit or stand in one place for a couple of hours while trying to entertain people.

Only got to stay for about an hour at the dallas show but thought he was great. Glad to see he's doing what he can to put on a good show while sitting, played the hits early and often and the crowd was great and into it. Can't wait to see him again at Floore's on thursday and then at Aggie Park on friday.

Saw in Austin at ACL Moody Theater last night. Very good show! Thoroughly enjoyed the LA Freeway encore played on the acoustic guitar Jerry Jeff gave him. My buddy wore a "Beat Alabama" shirt and got compliments all night. Hard for Aggies and Sips to disagree on that one! Lots of Aggies in attendance.

REK was dressed in the awful yellow suit and standard ballcap. Put on a good show and seemed sober enough do his job!

Was at ACL last night too. Great show. Highlight was definitely him pulling out Jerry Jeff's guitar he said he got a few days ago and playing LA Freeway.

Forgot to mention I was pleasantly surprised to find out Todd Snider was the opening act. I've been a fan of Todd as long as I've been a fan of REK. Tough to do a solo acoustic show in a room that big full of semi-drunk fans there to see somebody else, but I thoroughly enjoyed his set as well.

I saw the other day that we'll get James McMurtry at the Floores show on Saturday. Looking forward to that as I have liked him for a long time but have never seen him live.

Damn - that's awesome. I've seen him several times but it's been years since I saw him last. His new album is fantastic, but he's not much on stage presence and let's his songwriting do the talking. My wife can't ever remember his name, so when I'm listening to one of his songs she asks "Is this that surly basterd?"

Edit: spelling revised to avoid "bad" word filter.

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realize McMurtry had a new album. I believe I have every other album of his. Thought he had retired.

Will have to check it out.

Prior to singing Levelland at the Dallas show, REK told a story about McMurty being a grouchy MF. He was disturbed at being bothered while eating a hamburger by REK calling for permission to do the song
